Chapel row was one of three streets off Pontefract Road which formed a little community. At the top of the streets, on Pontefract Road, stood Hopetown Methodist Chapel and behind was Goodhope Row, Chapel Row and Foxbridge Row. None of these are still standing. The site is now part of a large industrial estate.

I am a descendant of Ann Carr (nee Stoker), who I understand was born on 27 July 1821 in North Elmsall. Married in approx. 1840 in North Elmsall and celebrated a Golden Wedding in 1891 and her husband died 5 years later. She lived to be 102 and died at the home of her son Charles Carr in 1923 at Home Farm Frickley. She had occupations of a Dressmaker, Farm Worker and a midwife (into her 70's). Hope someone finds this information useful in some way. I would be interested in any further information on her or her husband if anything should come to light.

Trying to find out what happened to Charles Ruben Wright, b.c.1877 in Emmott, Laneshaw Bridge, Colne, Lancashire, but moved to the hamlet of Oldfield in the parish of Oakworth, Yorkshire, before 1881. As an adult,Charles R was a solicitor. He was unmarried, still working as a solicitor and resident in Oldfield in 1911. In 1919, he was a witness at the marriage of his elder brother, John Knowles Wright, b.c.1871, to Ellen Ogden, b.1888, of Haworth. Their sister, Hannah E M E Wright (aka Elsie), b.c.1870, married (Dr)Isaac Thompson. She and her family lived in Oakworth. Their youngest brother was William Anthony Wright, b.c.1878. My Grandfather Booth Walters married Lavender in 1920 and had four children in High Wycombe; Robert (1921 - ), Vernon (b. 1923 - 1923, who died at 6 mo's old), Dorothy (who died in a drowning accident at 18) and my father Derek John Walters (1925 - 1996). John Whittaker married Emma Lee who was a widow - she had previously been married to a Mr. Smalley who died. John Whittaker died in 1857 in India - likely during the Indian Mutiny of 1857. William John Thomas or John Willie as he was often called was born 1876, possibly in Wales but possibly Yorkshire to David Thomas. David was a Watchmaker on John Willie's marriage to Minnie Marshall in 1906. They are both along with other Marshalls and Minnie's mother buried at Outwood Cemetary. I can't find his parents. Can you. For a time he lodged at 97 Manorfield Drive, Horbury. Sometimes family describe him as a Doctors scribe but in 1906 he was listed as a Colliery Service Washer. Can you help? Did you have the home he lodged at. Do you have information that might assist me. Please help.

Harrogate Advertiser - 13th June 1885. Knaresborough Petty Sessions. William and James Trees, innkeepers, Spacey Houses, Pannal, were charged by the police with keeping their house open during prohibited hours, and George Thackwray, Burn Bridge; Christopher Annakin, butcher, Pannal; and Charles Wade, maltster, Pannal, were charged with being on licensed premises during prohibited hours. Mr Fred Capes appeared for the defendants. PC Prentice stated on Sunday morning, the 31st May, at half-past 11, he was at Spacey Houses in company with PC Eke, when they visited the Old Spacey House inn, kept by the defendants Trees. Thackwray and James Trees were in the yard. Asked Trees how he accounted for Thackwray being there at that time, when he replied, "We are having a look round". Then proceeded to the brewery yard, where he found Annakin and Wade with the defendant William Trees. All the defendants resided within half a mile of the house. Cross-examined by Mr Capes : Defendants were in the garden, which was open to the yard. PC Eke corroborated the constable's statement. For the defence, Mr Capes contended he had no case to answer, as the house was not open, and no liquors were consumed. The three defendants were personal friends...

With them are son Rowland Dyson Heath aged 16, and daughter Elsie Matilda Heath aged 13. Missing from this census is daughter Eleanor Heath. There is an Eleanor Heath aged 5 listed in Barwick in Elmet at the time of this census, was she staying with her mother's relatives. My grandfather, Sebright Kershaw (b.1878,d.1958) spent nearly his entire life living in QUEENSBURY. His only know address in Queensbury was "6 Mount View Street" - this was probably around 1905. He immigrated briefly to the US but returnedto Queensbury around 1910. In the 1920's he divorced his first wife Lilly (Mitchell) Kershaw, and married a new lady in Queensbury. I'd like to find out exactly when he died, where he is buried, and what the name of his second wife was. Any help would be appreciated.

From the Century Cyclopedia of Names 1895 Eugene Aram was born at Ramsgill Yorks 1704 and died 6th August 1759. An English scholar, he was executed for fraud and the murder of Daniel Clark committed at Knaresborough in 1745. he taught at Knaresborough and elsewhere, and was arrested while acting as usher in a private school at Lynn Regis. The testimony of an accomplice, Houseman, through Clark's remains were discovered in a cave near Knaresborough, secured Aram's conviction. On his trial he defended himself with unusual ability. He was self-taught, but attained a very considerable knowledge of languages, and has been credited with the discovery of the affinity of the Celtic and other European tongues; he also disputed the then almost universally accepted direct derivation of Latin from the Greek.
