Thomas was born at the South Yorkshire base of the Roddis family in Whiston but for some reason settled in Laughton where his family remained from their marriage there in 1807. The Guest family originally of Maltby, Hellaby, Stainton and before that Conisbrough, also had a presence in Laughton particularly with Albert Guest being a blacksmith in the village well into the 20th century. The Robinson Family married into the Roddis Family and there is a grave at Ulley parish church to Samuel Robinson and Ann (nee Roddis) who was the daughter of Thomas and Mary.

red mail Ludlam Family - (Laughton en le Morthen - Yorkshire, West Riding)
I'm tracing the Ludlam family who originated in Laughten en le Morthen in Yorkshire, but some of whom moved to Stamford Lincolnshire. My interest is James Ludlam, born in Slade Hooten, who married Sarah Davis at All Saints Church, Stamford, in 1815. He is shown on the censuses as a Collar & Harness maker in St Paul's Street, Stamford from 1841 til he died in 1866. There is also a Silas Ludlam, born in Stamford around 1826, who was a Carver & Gilder in the High Street, Stamford, which, on the map, seems almost an extension of St Paul's Street). Silas was married to Ann Oates in Sheffield, after which they moved back to Stamford, where he died in 1864. I can't find a link between Silas and James, apart from the fact that James's son Thomas named HIS son, Silas James Ludlam in 1858! Can anyone throw any light on any of these people and their links between Laughton en le Morthen and Stamford? Thanks Jan

Walker/Pratt families of Hebden, Linton, Malham Moor 1800s - (Linton - Yorkshire, West Riding)
I am descended from Thomas Walker and Ann Pratt Walker who lived in the area around Hebden, Grassington, Malham Moor. They had at least 7 sons, one of whom (John ~1816-1866) was my g-g-grandfather. John and at least two of his brothers (Edward ~1830-1910? and Joseph 1835-1927) went to the US as miners in Wisconsin and the California gold rush. I believe John's brother William went as well. I do not know if Thomas and Ann went to America. They do not appear in the English census records (nor does John, implying he may have left for the US before 1841). Thomas and Ann were born around 1793. The sons who stayed in England worked as (dairy?) farmers and sold butter. At some point one or two of the boys lived with the Pratt family. I am eager to hear from anyone who is related to these families. - Tim

The only record that appears to fit this is the birth of a Matthew Lickley in Kilburn, Nth Yorkshire to a Thomas Lickley and his wife Jane. There were also 2 daughters, Ann and Hannah born to this couple. If there is anyone who has been looking at the Lickley family from this area I would love to hear from you as I have hit a very solid brick wall with Matthew Sarah and their parents. Sarah Lickley nee Pears married a Richard Flowers in 1846 and the couple moved nearer to Leeds.
