red mail HARLING in Whitwood and Castleford
I am interested in a Joseph HARLING who died at Mere Pottery age 58 in 1845, so born about 1787/8. According to the 1841 census for Whitwood ,where the family was enumerated as ARNOLD, he was born in Yorkshire. His first wife Elizabeth SMITH, who he married in Featherstone in 1812, died in 1820.They had 2 children surviving infancy ; George born 1812 married to Ruth PENNINGTON and James born 1815 , a pottery manufacturer who married Jane HOLMES (died 1849) and later Margaret LINDLEY. After Elizabeth SMITH’s death Joseph married Mary BRAIM daughter of Thomas BRAIM & Mary SCATCHERD in Featherstone in 1819 and their surviving children were Joseph 1826 married to Mary POPPLEWELL and my ancestor Edward 1830 (his baptism may be the one shown on the IGI as Edward ARNILL 5/7/1830 Castleford to George & Mary ARNILL) married to Ruth ELLA(my 2x great grandparents)I would like to hear from anyone researching HARLINGS in the Whitwood and Castleford area and would be eternally grateful for any leads as to where Joseph may have come from.
