red mail Frances White - Sussex
Dear List, I am seeking information regarding my great grandmother Frances White. The following is the only detail I have: Frances White possibly born in Sussex in 1840 - give or take 5 years Arrived in South Australia in 1847 Wedding certificate name John White as her father Ship: "Royal Admiral" - which also transported convicts South Australia was a free state - no convict transportation Convict women often travelled with their children If the child was young they would be put into an orphanage until of an age where they could work. Young children were used as maids and servants. Transportation was to NSW and Tasmania I have exhausted all the shipping references in Australia perhaps there are emigration records in the UK which might provide more comprehensive information. Any and all assistance, information and advice gratefully appreciated. Warm regards Karen Kestigian

red mail San Franicsco Marshalls from Todmorden?
I'm trying to trace Hannah Marshall (b. 1828-1833) back to her roots. She reportedly came to the USA in 1860. Her mother Mary (b. abt 1802) also immigrated to the US. Henry Marshall is buried with the family, I don't know his relationship to the two women. Family story says that Hannah had a sister, Martha who visited San Francisco from England about 1896 (Martha was supposed to be a twin). The reason I think Todmorden is their origin is two keepsakes from Todmorden, so they could have been from the area or just had relatives in Todmorden.
