I am looking for information on Richard Hirst (b c 1798 in Mirfield) and his wife, Charlotte (last name possibly Brook) (b c 1797 in Newton, W Yorkshire). They had at least 6 children, the first 5 born in Yorkshire: Richard (b c1826), Samuel (b c1829), Elizabeth (b Leeds c1831), Sarah Ann (b Selby c1833), Frederic (b c1840) and Thomas (b 1841 in London). The Curate James Appleyard married them. Neither Robert nor Elizabeth could write, so they both signed with an “X” for their Mark. France Crossland and John Smith were there to witness the marriage. Robert worked in the shoe industry as a Cord wainer (Shoe Maker). According to the I.G.I Records they had three children:

I have a Jemima Stead b Mirfield who marr. a John Salter in St. Mar's Church Bury Lanc. & they had a Daug. Mary b.1810 in same Church. Mary Salter Marr. William Colley 1841 in that Church also. On 1871 Census Hannah Salter Law was living with their Family so she must have changed her name at sometime. Jemima Salter is also found on P/Reg. with illigit Children with William Barlow also in St. Mary's Church Bury Lan. I have quite a puzzle & would appreciate any help. Jemima was D.O. Born in Mirfield then disappeared from records until he reappeared in East London in 1861, with a wife believed to have been Frances Hardcastle. Alfred was a skilled boilermaker and we have family heirlooms which suggest he did some notable work in Malta . Perhaps some government civil engineering project. Later ran a foundry in Northwich ' Cheshire where he lived till his death. The foundry produced steel fabrications which were part of the famous Anderton Lift. Does anyone have any knowledge of his parents or background at the time of his birth in Mirfield.? He has a grandson and granddaughter still alive(aged 91 and 97years) who are curious to know more.
