red mail Thomas James ASTLE
Thomas was born in Honley on 2 December 1878, the eldest child of William and Evelyn Emma (nee Sutton) ASTLE, a year after their marriage. He had a sister, Mabel, born in Watford in 1889. In 1901 census Thomas was a groom in Bolney, Sussex, and in 1903 he married Alice Caroline BATCHELOR in Chertsey. I believe him to be the Thomas Astle who was my grandfather. 'My' Thomas took part in the Christmas Truce of 1914 (regiment unknown). At some stage he married an Irish girl called Bridget Mary O'SULLIVAN (my grandmother) and they had one daughter. The marriage was a disaster and ended in divorce in 1936. Any further information would be greatly appreciated.
