Thomas Rochford born 1848 married Margaret Jane Gough and became very well known in the harrogate area as the Bathchair Man carrying the rich and famous. He had 6 children that I know of and His daughter Mary Josephine Rochford born 1888 married Robert Allinson. They had 5 children one of whom is my mother. I believe Thomas was the son of Patrick Rochford b 1819 co wicklow ireland.Thomas had two brothers John and James(Jacobus). I also believe that Patrick was the son of William Rochford but am happy to be corrected. If you have any information you would be willing to share please contact me.

I am seeking information or descendants of DONALD VICTOR SHUTT born at Harrogate in 1897. He was the son of Caroline (nee Smith) and John Feasby Shutt of Harrogate. Donald married MILDRED MARY PEXTON in 1922. She was born in 1901 at Boston Spa, Leeds, the daughter of Isabel Wilkinson (nee Procter) and Frank Linley Pexton. Mildred and Donald had at least 5 children between 1923 and 1933.
I am looking for descendants of John Procter Pexton born 1905 in Harrogate. He was the son of Isabel Wilkinson (nee Procter) and Frank Linley Pexton. His siblings were Mildred Mary (born 1901, married Donald Victor Shutt), Charles William (born 1902), James Linley (born 1904), Dudley Frederick (born 1907, married Margaret Lewis) and Annie May (born 1910). John Pexton married Edith Mary Bramley in 1927 at Sheffield and I have found two of their children - Frank W Pexton born 1929 and Margaret M Pexton born 1931 who may possibly still be alive. I am connected through the Procter line.

Looking for any information on Cowper Howard b 1859 in Hebden Bridge. He was a draper and married Gertrude Bishop/Sadler in 1928 in Harrogate/Knaresborough. He died I believe in 1932. He was a widower when he married Gertrude (a widow)and had 2 children Harry C. Howard b 1894 and Annie L. Howard b 1890. Gertrude had a son John Bishop b 1909, who was my grandfather. Gertrude was still living in Harrogate after Cowper died, in about 1934. Anything at all will be greatly received.

Arthur lived with Ethel (Brooks)in st hildas road around 1929. He came from colchester and was a turf accountant (travelling around the country attending horse racing meetings).His brother Louis also moved to harrogate. Ethel was approx 17 years younger than Arthur, and she came from ackworth. They had 2 children, Anita Margaret howe (born june 1929) and Zoe patricia howe (later known as Babs and had kennels in starbeck breeding various breeds of dogs and also greyhounds). My mother has just turned 80 and I am trying to track down her little brother for her. Frank Howard Robbins (known as Howard) was born to Ethel May Robbins/Lewis at Harrogate in 1947. She was from Hackney in London. When she died in 1951 Howard was adopted by his mum's brother and wife (Frank & Kitty Robbins) who lived in Harrogate. Frank snr worked for the GPO and moved around a bit with his job. I believe he was at Chesterfield for a while. I would be grateful for any information regarding Howard's current whereabouts, and if he would welcome any contact. Many Thanks

I am trying to trace any of the Gilbert family. My grandmother Lily Gilbert was born in Harlow Hill Harrogate in 1906. Fathers name Ernest Gilbert mothers name Elizabeth Gilbert (nee Fitzsimons). I believe there were several brothers and sisters names include Laura Gilbert, Emily Gilbert and possibly Harry Gilbert. My grandmother married Reginald Sargent in 1927 at York Register Office. At this time they were living at 10 Blenheim Cotts York.

Am researching history of Walter Elsworth who joined 2nd Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment as a boy in the early 1900's and finished as Regimental Sergeant Major after the First World War. In World War II he was commissioned and went to India as the CO of a Field Censor Unit. I believe he came to live in Harrogate and became manager of WH Smiths. Looking for any Crossleys / Reynards in the Harrogate area - especially Bilton and High Harrogate - from 1850 until the Second World War. My ancestor Harold Crossley was born at Nydd Vale Terrace in 1889 to John and Margaret (nee Reynard). They also had a son, John Reynard Crossley (died Harrogate 1965) and a daughter Minnie, whose fate is unknown. Margaret's brother Frederick Reynard lived on Skipton Road at premises which are now a minimarket.
I am hoping someone might help with a look-up of possible obituaries for the following people and hope that there are references to other family members - I am trying to find out what happened to the sister & daughter of these Potterton's. Her name was Annie (Potterton) Burrill and was last found on the 1891 Census living with parents on Tower Street in Harrogate. Annie's son Herbert, age 19 was also living in the household. Hebert is still on the 1901 census in Harrogate, married with 2 children. But I would like to find out what happened to his mother.......... My gt grandmother Mary Ellen Colley, used to work for Lady Milner-White who lived near Harrogate. She worked there from approx 1890-1893 and I am trying to find out where this house is. From The Century Cyclopedia of Names 1895 John Balguy was born at Sheffield 12th August 1686, and died at Harrowgate (sic) 21st September 1748. An English divine and controversialist. He wrote 'Letter to a Deist' and 'Foundation of Moral Goodness' etc.

Harrogate Advertiser - 6th September 1856 In the obituary of the Leeds Mercury, appears the following announcement : "On the 10th instant, aged 75, John Bainbridge, Esq., of Pannal, son of the late John Bainbridge, Esq., of Crimple House. Deceased established a school in the village of Pannal, in 1817, and was its singular supporter until his death. He was followed to his grave by the Sunday scholars, who were each presented at the graveside with a remembrance of the death of one who had ever taken a deep interest in the instruction of youth, and whose kind attentions and liberal encouragements will be long and widely remembered by both parents and children". We beg to concur in the above, and we are glad to inform our readers thatthe late Captain Bainbridge has made such arrangements with regard to the future occupancy of Pannal Village School as will at once put at end any unpleasantness that may have hitherto have existed in the Parish with regard to this building, which he and his family were mainly instrumental in raising, with the kind assistance of several benevolent individuals. From The Mining Engineer - page 549 May 1962 Ridpath Thomas Rossiter of Harrogate died 25th Apr 1962 aged 80 Assoc 1901 Member 1910 Council 1923-1957 Vice Pres 1941-44. p 627 Memoir with photograph. he was born May 1881 and educ at Loretto School Edinburgh In 1897 he became an Articled Pupil at Consett Iron Co Colliery and in 1904 he obtained his Colliery Managers Certificate and was appointed an Assistant Manager at one of the Company's pits. In 1907 he was appointed Undermanager at Medomsley Colliery belonging to the Consett Iron Co, where he remained until 1909 when he moved into Lancashire to take up a Colliery Manager's position. He returnedto Durham in 1912 to manage 3 of the Priestman Colliery Company's pits together with coke-ovens and brickworks. During the First World war he served in H M Forces from 1915-1919 and on return he assumed the Agent's position with the Priestman collieries, taking over a further colliery and coke ovens at Victoria Garesfield in 1923.
