red mail Edward Middleton
Edward Middleton born 1860 in Cowgill Yorkshire. At some stage Edward went to Iowa USA to live with his older brother John Middleton, maybe in 1871 with John, maybe joined him later. Ellis Island records for this time frame apparently destroyed in a fire. Edward is on the 1885 Iowa census as a member of the household and was single. I have information that indicates he returned to England and married Agnes(?). He was buried on 6/6/1942 in Cowgill. Does anyone know anything about him-when he returned to England, married, did he have family?
red mail thomas moore- blacksmith
joseph moore married in whitby in 1847 and said his father was thomas moore a blacksmith. in the 1851 whitby census joseph's age given is 27 and birthplace given as dent, west yorks. he is missing from the 1841 census and i can find no trace in the IGI of him or thomas in dent. thomas was probably born around 1800. thanks- john
My Gt.grandfather Thomas Middleton was born in Dent in 1830. His parents were Thomas & Jane/Jennet Middleton (nee Allen). They lived at Clunterbank in Dent & had 8 children. Thomas died in 1833 & Jane in 1836 leaving several young children orphans & my Gt.grandfather Thomas was only 3 years old when his father died & 6 at the time of his mothers death. I think I found Thomas in Dent workhouse aged 10 years in the 1841 census & then in Liverpool in 1850 when he wed Jane Allenson/Allason. I would love to know where he was between 1841 & 1850. If anyone can help I would be very grateful for any info. Many thanks.

red mail SEDGWICK
JACK/JOHN SEDGWICK born 1896 in Leeds and died 1939 in Rossendale, Lancashire.Jack married Jane Ann Cooney on 3/8/1916 in St. Mary's R.C. Church, Newcastle upon Tyne. They had five children. About 1929 Jack left for Leeds to look for work taking four of the five children with him. He sent for Jane Ann and their baby daughter Mary. Jane refused to leave Newcastle where her family lived. Jack left two children in Leeds with relatives and took two sons, George and John Ernest with him to Suffolk where his commanding officer had a farm. He later settled in Rossendale with his two sons and he died there in 1939. Jack was gassed in the trenches in the 1st World War and we believe this may have contributed to his early death. When Jane Ann left Newcastle upon Tyne, about 1930, she settled in Sheffield along with her daughter Mary and a friend of the family, James Primrose McAlpine. They adopted the surname of 'Cooney' this being Jane Ann's maiden name and they were known as Cooney all through the rest of their lives as were all the children of Jane & James. I have now found all my Sedgwick cousins ( children of George & John Ernest)thereby solving a 70 year family mystery. Thanks to all. The Sedgwick cousins hope to have a re-union sometime next year. What a day that will be !!!!!!!!
