Pounder And Lee In Stokesley
I am in interested in my Great Grandfather's family. He was James POUNDER and was born in Stokesley in 1841. His father was Robert POUNDER and his mother Mary Ann LEE.
Searching for those with ties to the family of James Balance Westwick, b 13 Oct 1815 and christened in Stokesley, son of James Westwick and Ann (Nancy) B. Sweeting. Need proof of James Sr.'s parentage -- believe he was the son of William Westwick and Eleanor Crake, who are buried in Upleatham. William and James Sr. were gamekeepers for the Earl of Zetland. The Westwicks were also associated with Barnard Castle, Durham. James Balance Westwick had a brother John b 30 March 1822, christened inUpleatham. John m Mary Wade Emmerson of Ossett. The two brothers operated a foundry in Leeds and came to the U.S. in 1850 and 1852 and settled in Galena, Illinois. Were there other brothers or sisters? What is the connection to the Balance family??? Balance appears again as a middle name in later generations. And a family mystery -- When James Balance Westwick came to the U.S., a young child named James came with him. I think this child was James Westwick born 10 July 1844 in Easingwold,Yorkshire, son of Jonathan Sweeting Westwick -- what was their connection?? Was he an orphaned relative?? Thanks, Laura
