The JAMES family.
The earliest known members of my mother's family, who were probably tenant farmers, were living in Romaldkirk before the commencement of the Parish Registers in 1578 and the name is recorded in them until 1713. Descendants spread through Staindrop, Cockfield, Heighington and Denton before settling in the richer pastures of North Yorkshire from the 1730's onwards. I would welcome contact with anyone who can trace a JAMES connection from this early period.
