red mail Thomas Batten Bristow born 1845
If anyone can shed any light on my Great Great Grandfather Thomas Batten Bristow born in Limehouse London 1845 or possibly Hull - he was married to Mary Leake and marriage certificate shows his father was Thomas and I believe his mother was Jane who died in South Shields in 1874. I cannot find anything in relation to Thomas Snr, Jane was on census alone with Thomas in 1851 and I cannot find Thomas in 1861 nor any record of his birth in 1845 - this is the missing link and I'm interested to know why all of his children where named Batten as a middle name, my great grandfather Charles Batten Bristow named all of his children Batten Bristow including my grandmother Mary Elizabeth Batten Bristow and he was unhappy that his children (sons) did not follow suit. I feel this may be the key to finding information which would lead me to Thomas' birth or information relating to his parents. I would be grateful for any help from anyone. Thanks.
red mail Hudson Peter born to Elizabeth Hudson 1909
Hi, Im trying to research my grandfather Peter Hill (born Hudson). He was born 15th march 1909 at 4 coopers place, waller street registration district sculcoates county of kingston upon hull. I know a fair bit about him from when he entered the army as I have records and certificates, I am however stumped at his beginning and that of his mother. On his army records he lists his father as peter richard hill seaman but father isn't listed on birth certificate. Something I did come across whilst searching the census was a peter and emma hill both in their fifties with a son peter aged 2! his army records also state he went to st josephs boys school in manchester. He would never talk about his up bringing and certainly led a colourful life. marrying twice, being kicked out of the army, taking part in a bank robbery. I would be so so grateful for any help or information that could help me. most of my family hails from yorkshire and the surrounding areas and my grandfather married into the cutsforth family which I have a great deal of information on. Thanks for taking the time to read my plea for help. kim
