Mary and Fanny Trueman married Scottish soldiers, billeted in Beverley due to the Napoleonic threat, in 1797. Mary married Alexander Fergusson, a soldier in the Dumfries fencibles, returned to Dumfriesshire, via Ireland and died at Penpont. One of her wedding witnesses was George Trueman. Fanny married Alexander Wyllie and returned to Ayrshire with him. The name Samuel appeared to be important in subsequent generations. Any information about possible family connections would be welcome.

His mother has been given as Frances Dales on his death cert. and Mary Dales on his marriage cert. I have found a marriage of William Smith and Frances Dales on 10 Sep 1825 in Bainton, Yorkshire. red mail Johnson leather merchant of Beverley
I believe that the marriage in St Andrew by the Wardrobe of Betsey Sharman and Thomas Johnson on 14 Feb 1853 was in my ancestral tree. I now know that this is right she was a victualler from Grandborough. He was a leather merchant living in Beverley in Yorkshire. He appears to have originated from Alresford in hampshire, and his father may very well have been a Rev William Johnson. Thomas had a son Thomas Garnier Johnson, who was in the same trade. His daughter married into the Barrett-Lennard family of Canada, so it is possible that late in the nineteenth century Thomas Garnier and his family moved to Manitoba.

red mail The Dales family Beverley
Further to my posting in April re Jonathan Dales. I have discovered that his mother was Mary Dales, no father on Birth Certificate, and Jonathan was born in the workhouse. The only single Mary Dales of a childbearing age was Mary (b1832), daughter of Francis & Alice Dales (Butcher) of Lady Gate, Beverley. Mary later went on to marry Alfred Brown (b1830) of Beverley in Hull in 1861. He was a widower with 2 children. Mary & Alfred moved to Essex sometime between 1861 & 1871. Can anybody out there find another Mary Dales for me, so that I don't bark up the wrong tree (no pun intended) Thank You Delia
