I believe that the marriage in St Andrew by the Wardrobe of Betsey Sharman and Thomas Johnson on 14 Feb 1853 was in my ancestral tree. I now know that this is right she was a victualler from Grandborough. He was a leather merchant living in Beverley in Yorkshire. He appears to have originated from Alresford in hampshire, and his father may very well have been a Rev William Johnson.

He enlisted in the Australian Army on 5 Nov 1914 at Liverpool NSW, Aus. Married a Folkestone lady on 21 Oct 1917 - 19? Her name commenced with T ? Requested discharge in England as he had no relatives in Aus. Father offered Reg work as Assistant Bailiff at the City Court of Folkestone after his discharge. Reg was wounded in Gallipoli Aug 1915, returned to work & was discharged in Eng on 21 Mar 1919. May be connected to my Pike, Heritage family.

Susan Scothrup, my Great Great Great grandmother, was born in Bow in 1811 and baptised in St. Mary le Bow in 1812. Her brother Robert Scothrup was born in 1798 and baptised in St. Lawrence Jewry. In 1830, this Robert is convicted of Embezzling £1, 0s, 7d from his employer and, despite a petition with 30 signatories, including his employer, William Gladwin, he is transported for 14 years to Bermuda. At her marriage in 1839 to Richard Goodfellow Richardson, a tea dealer, Susan describes her father, Robert, as a "gentleman". Does anyone know about the Scothrups? Why was their father described as a gentleman? Did Robert junior ever return from Bermuda? Kristin, London

Hi, I have an ancester (SAMUEL SAWYER) who fell to his death from a window (whilst cleaning it) of the bank where he worked. This occured in June 1892. John CATH, b 1779 in St George in the East,was a Merchants Agent or Warehouse Keeper in the 1800's, in partnership with Henry KAIN at 35 St Mary at Hill. The partnership was dissolved in Nov 1818. John traded in a variety of goods, including precious stones. In 1839 he sailed on the "British Queen" to New York on business, and died in St Mary at Hill later that year. Any further information on him would be appreciated.

my dad wasjohn joseph o'rourke and his brother daniel o'rourke. all i know is that dad was born 1\6\1922\24 in ireland county cork parish not known. his mother was rosaleen o'rourke from ireland and his father was salvatore pratts who was known to be a barber somewhere in london. i know that rosaleen was a governess of a kind. d.o.b not known. dad never spoke of his parents but i found out that his mother had taken them from ireland to bow london to an ophanage run by nuns i do not know where this is. please can someone help me apart from my two 1st cuz's in london.

Seeking information and contact with descendants of John William POCKNELL born 1817 at St. Martin in the Fields London son of a John POCKNELL and Harriet PERRIS. He married an Eliza HUMPHREY on 21/5/1838 at St.Pancras, London. I descend from John's illegitimate son John William CARON (born 1852), the mother was a Julia CARON. John William junior was later named PATTERSON as the actual father's name was not used. I suppose this was to protect this fact from being known. Also John William POCKNELL and wife Eliza stayed married as divorce was not a preferred option. John and Julia also produced another child Elizabeth Harriett Juliet born in 1850.
