Smith married Green 1902.
My maternal grandparents, Thomas Smith (1881-1916) and Alice Green (1882-1916) were married in the parish church in Blockley on March 30 1902. My mother Lilian May Newman (Smith) was born in the village on 20 Dec 1903. She had four siblings, Elsie, Violet, Thomas and Evelyn. The family subsequently moved to Worcester, and are recorded there by the 1911 census. I am trying to establish my mother's maternal line which I believe is Green/Mitchell. My mtDNA testing has not revealed any close matches, so I am requesting that researchers with connections to Blockley review their records for evidence of these names. My second request for information concerns Thomas Smith's father shown on his marriage certificate as Henry Smith, boatman, deceased. This has thrown up a brick wall. He was possibly a canal boat owner/operator on the Worcester-Birmingham Canal. He and his brothers may have owned canal boats and a coal yard in Worcester. One brother may have been called 'Blind Jim' and a sister may have been 'Aunt Lal' according to my mother's memory. Any hints would be appreciated. Thanks David New Zealand
red mail William Collins md in Blockley, 1799
William Collins and Elizabeth Broadway were married in Blockley in 1799 and lived in Paxton. They had 6 children: John, Joseph, Henry (1), Henry (2), Thomas and Elizabeth. We are looking for the birth place and family of this William Collins - he was born about 1766 but we don't know where. There is some suspicion that perhaps he was an Irish navvy who came over to work on the canals...but living in Paxton for 40 years? This is NOT the other, unrelated William Collins born about 1780 in Longborough, Glouscestershire who was living in Blockley in the same time period (to 1841).
