red mail Descendants of Jason Hill, and of George Hill (father of Reuben Hill), needlemakers
Searching for current descendants of Jason Hill (e.g., David Cook and son Peter Cook, son/grandson of Bessie Hill Cook), and searching for family of Reuben Hill (son of George and Hanna Hill) who emigrated to Philadelphia in about 1840, possibly with Uncle Jason Hill who returned to England, leaving Reuben with other relative, Shadrach Hill, in Philadelphia. Reuben stayed in Philadelphia and married. I am searching the family connections between Shadrach, Reuben and Jason (the latter, as stated above, returned to Astwood Bank and his descendants are in the Astwood Bank area, presumably today. Shadrach had to be aware, before he left for Philadelphia sometime before 1840, of the needlemaking business of Jason and of George, because Shadrach later became a prominent mid-19th-century Philadelphia merchant, importing needles made at Jason Hill's Wellington Needle Works in Astood. And young Reuben, although he did not grow up working for Shadrach's business here, remained close, and passed along within his family, sample packets of the needles made at the family's Wellington Needle Works. I have no idea where the Cooks now live in the Astwood Bank area, and no idea whatsoever about the family that Shadrach Hill left behind, almost two centuries ago. Any suggestions most welcome!
