Hi all, I am trying to find out any information about my great, great Grandmother Jane Symonds born 19th Aug 1860 in The Dale, Downton, Wiltshire, UK and her parents, grandparents. Her maiden name was Barrow. She migrated to Queensland, Australia with her husband Robert Whiskin Symonds. They were married in 1878 in Rosewood, Queensland and had 8 children then migrated to New Zealand and bore another 5 children. she died 7th Sept 1938 in Ashurst, New Zealand and her husband Robert died 1940 In Palmerston North, New Zealand. Hello, I am wondering if anyone has come across John and Elizabeth Crook, on 1841 Census John is 20 and a Shepherd, Elizabeth aged 25 they are living at Woodfalls, Downton, East Downton. I am wondering what became of them as I don't seem to find them after 1841. I believe they had children one of whom was possibly Laban Crook, he married an Elizabeth Cuell in parish of Kingsworthy, Southampton in May 1858.On marriage certificate his father's name is John and occupation Shepherd. Help I've hit a brickwall.

I have traced my paternal grandmother's line back to Charles Poore and Sarah Dimett or Dymott married in December 1738 both aged 20. I have recently heard of a story handed down to another family member that there may be a Huguenot connection. The story is that a Huguenot portrait artist by the name of De la Poore fled from France to Suffolk where he was commissioned to paint the portrait of a wealthy Suffolk family. He then fell in love and eloped with one of the daughters. Would be pleased to hear from anyone who has also heard a story like this.

They were married in Downton, Wiltshire 14.2.1765 and a number of the male descendants had "Bloomer" as a middle name including my own +g.grandfather. My family traces back to William GOODRIDGE/GUTTERIDGE married to Mary MILBO(U)RN 13 October 1787 probably in, or around, Downton. At least thirteen children. Edmund b.1809, still living in Charlton, Wilts in 1881. Son William b.1843, Alton, Hants, m.27 Sep 1874. Came to reside in Chelsea, London where my grandfather Sidney was born,30 March 1893. William Richard Harris
William Harris was born in Downton Wil. England on 5th May 1799. His parents were Richard Harris and Ann Hobbs. He married Maria Reynolds (daughter of Shadrack Reynolds and Elizabeth Hillyer who was born 14th March 1806 in Milton Lilbourne England).They were married on 14th July 1827 in Downton and had 3 children before setting sail for Australia on the Woodbridge in 1838. The childrens names were, Mary ann, Richard and Shadrack Harris. My family are decendants of the third child (shadrack william Harris). I would like any information that may be out there about any of these people. Thankyou.
