red mail Blackness Castle - (Blackness - West Lothian)
I am the steward at Blackness Castle ,although through my job i know quite a bit about its history, but i have started a quest that has caught the imagination of some of the villagers, over the years there have been many soldiers billited at Blackness so i thought it would be nice to speak of them ,one in particular has caught our imagination,he has written on the causway wall at the castle gate his name and when he was there ,so im trying to get his records from Kew ,i have to find out which regiment was there at the time ,the soldier has written 1796 P J Dow 18 R S G although the G may be B,an interesting find was in our guide book it tells of a small garrison being posted there of 1 sergeant 2 corporals 2 gunners and 12 soldiers, this was 1795 ,so im confident he was one of those. any help would be appreciated

Robert Tennant / Mary Murray, Stirlingshire (STI, County, Scotland) Looking for descendants of Robert Tennant, also spelt variously as Tenant & Tennent. Robert was born 30-10-1782 at Cadder, now possibly Dunbartonshire, his native place was given as county Stirling, in Scotland. Robert was convicted in Edinburgh on the 9th January 1818 for stealing from West Binny Mill, now known as Ecclesmachan near Linlithgow. Robert married Mary Murray from Whitburn on the 3-6-1803 at Cadder, they had five children at the time of his conviction. Robert received a 14 year sentence and was transported to N.S.W. where he worked at various flour mills in that state. As a result Robert Tennant was seperated from his first family in Scotland and re-married a Mary Ann Hall in Richmond N.S.W, on the 29th August 1825, they had seven children. Are there any descendants out there from the first marriage in Scotland? Please contact Des in Australia
