I am researching the Fortis Engineering company and would welcome any information. The company was situated at the corner on Percy St and Norfolk St in Coventry. They were tool makers and produced bench and machine vices. I am not sure how many models were produced but have photos of a number 10 and 11 bench vices. Would like to establish when it was founded by a Frank Martin and his sons and when they sold it. Any photos of the premises and products. I am led to believe that the premises were burnt down one nightand I believe was rebuilt and named the Fortis Works. I dont know what business was carried out on the premises but know that it was compulsory purchased, as part of the Spon End Comprehensive Developement area, in 1969. Any information would be much appreciated.

My ancestor's include Samuel LOWER who married Sarah ROLLINSON in Foleshill in 1792. They had William in 1794 & Henry in 1791. William lOWER married Winefred ASCOUGH in Saint Lawrence Church, Foleshill in 1813. Winefred's parent's were: Thomas ASKEW (note spelling change) and Winniford LINDON. They had: Thomas Ascough LOWER in 1814, and he was christened in Saint Michael's Coventry. Thomas married Ann SHAW in Saint Michael's, Kenilworth, in 1836. They had: Edwin Chandos, Mary Ann, John Thomas, Edwin, Harry Shaw, Alfred George, and Caroline Flora Ascough LOWER. As far as I can tell, they were all born in Coventry. Thomas Ascough LOWER was CityCrier for the city of Coventry between the years of 1861 and 1881, according to the census reports of those years. If any of this looks familiar and you can add information, I would be extremely grateful.
