red mail William Lifford of Ansty - (Ansty - Sussex)
Researching family name of Lifford. Main line Surrey based but the earliest entry I have tracked is a William Lifford who was known in the Parish Records as William of Ansty. It is therefore my thinking that he was born in or around Ansty in Sussex and moved to Surrey either as a single chap or following marriage. Be grateful for any help. His birth date would be 1700 to 1710.
Salt Box Hookland Farm Estate. Ashington Sussex - (Ashington - Sussex)
Can Anyone remember Hooklands Farm Estate. James Brown (1837-1914) married Jane Burchfield (1837-1926) they lived at Hooklands Farm Estate. they had 4 children but 2 daughters and one son were killed in a fire before 1864. James had a brother Thomas who married Janes sister Mary Annie.
My paternal grandfather, Frederick Richard HICKOX b 1872 farmed at Abbotts Farm, Wiston from the very early 1900s to late 1940s. He married Edith Mary KNIGHT in 1901. They had 3 sons; Harry 1911, Frederick junior 1915 and Ronald Stephen 1918. When Edith died he married her cousin (my grandmother) Florence Daisy TYRRELL whose parents were Emily EVERSHED and John WELLING TYRRELL. She had my father, Alan in 1929 and died in 1933. My grandfather, Frederick Richard HICKOX was illegitimate and was almost definitely born to Keturah READ (some relatives spelt REED). He was later "adopted" by Harry HICKOX who was earlier listed as his Uncle and who married a Sarah READ who even later became Mrs J GOLDS. There is a suggestion that there was also a connection with an Esther HICKOX on my tree. Also that Frederick Richard HICKOX had a sister called Miss Harriet HEWLETT in Coolham. Confusing or what! I have a family tree of the HICKOX family going back to 1719 (John of Broadwater, Worthing) and have found his grave and many other HICKOX graves in Sussex but would be grateful for any information anyone has please. Thank you. Marilyn
