Elvina Brown
My great grandfather, Alfred Burton, married Elvina Brown, in August 1877. I know only that she was a laundress and her father, James, was a coachman. Does anyone know anything about her forebears? In the 1881 census Elvina and her two young children are shown as "visitors" at Colveston House, near Keymer. Any information on this place? And the 1851 census shows Alfred's parents living at the White Stork Inn, in Lower Horsebridge. Any information on this?
red mail William Horton and Elizabeth Vines
I have an ancestor William Horton who was born circa 1755 and later married Elizabeth Vines in 2 May 1779 in Hellingly and raised a family. I am unsure of whether he came from Hellingly as the only other William Horton I can find that dates fit is from Heyshott. There is a record of a William Horton marrying in Heyshott on 29 Apr 1779 to a Elizabeth Budd. Can it be coincidence that these 2 Williams both married with a week of each other or has there been some discrepancy in records. Any help would be appreciated
