William Wood born Hailsham
I have been doing research for a friend, William Wood is his Great x 3 Grandfather, William born 1786 Hailsham, married an Elizabeth, but do not know her maiden name, but she was born in Buckley, Sussex. I do not know Williams parents, but he had 2 brothers Stephen born 1791 and Richard 1796. William has a son Stephen who twice married, Martha Walker in 1840 and had 3 children and Naomi Douch in 1856 and had 5 children. I have found the Douch family details going back to 1740.The Wood family also directly link to The Onion family of Wilmington, The Douch family connect to Kitty Smith of Willingdon, The Adriel family of Hailsham, The Levett family of Willingdon. Would like to be able to pass on more early Woods family to my friend, Thank you. Vita.
red mail Reede/Reade/Read/Reed!
We now know the father of the Alice Reade who married William WIMBLE was christened in 1625 in Hailsham and buried 22 July 1665 in Crowhurst. Her father was John REEDE, yeoman (buried 21 Jan 1657)-according to his will he owned the Old Manor and billings (???) at Downash. He had at least these children, "?Thomas (1604-18), Jeremiah and William (unknown birth year but possibly born in Kent as they also owned Silverden, Sandhurst). Then Agnes (c. 1615-1617), Elizabeth (1618), Ann (1621 who married Thomas Edbourne), John (c.1623) Alice (1625). It is possible that the children's mother was an Ellen as a lady of this name died in Hailsham in 1640 and the following year JR remarried a widow, Dorothy MAY. Any information about John's wife, parents, birthdates for Jeremiah/Jeremy and William -excitedly received.
