Hi all I'm looking for decendants from my great grandfather, Joseph Frederick Grover (1860), Steam Engine Driver, and his wife Emily J Tullet residing at 90 Elm Grove, Brighton on 1901 census. Their children were William Henry Charles Grover (1885)(my grandfather)and siblings Emily(1888), Wallace (1890), Joseph (1892), Lucy (1894) and Frederick (1895). Charles' parents were George (Richard) Curd and Ann Purnpenny. 1851 and 1871 census shows Mary Mills Widow, and the following children to Charles and Hebe Jane: Maria ca 1845, Matilda ca 1848, Hannah ca 1850, William ca 1851, Hebe Jane 1855, Lorita/Louisa/Lizzie? 1856, Alice ca 1859, Charles ca 1860, Emma ca 1864, Rosina 1866. I am looking for the family/descendants of Herbert Smith (b1904c) born possibly in Shropshire. He married Mary Snape who came from The Hague in Holland. They married in the Hague and had one son called Derek, born 1931. Derek lived and worked as a Queens Counsel, likely in Stafford. They had four children, 3 boys and a girl. It is possible that the family may have adopted the name of DAWSON. Around 1970, Mary was living at a Masonic Home for the elderly in Eccles near Manchester but returned to Brighton with Derek where she died. Derek Smith was a Q.C. for many years. Now trying to find the living decendants of this family, probably living in the Brighton area to re-unite them with their Canadian branch of the family.

I am researching my family in the Brighton, Sussex area. My Great Grandfather, Henry Drury, Arrived in Brighton and set up a hairdressing establishment in Church Street. There were other family businesses in Brighton also namely B & H Drury, Theatrical costumiers and wigmakers; they were in New Road, Brighton; The B stands for Benjamin and the H stands for Henry. Benjamin was a Past Master of the local Freemasond Lodge. There was also a George Drury in Brighton who was in business as a Brass Turner, but this is all I know of him. It states on the marriage cert. that Alice has no father - " left an orphan fathers name unknown " Their witnesses were, Elizabeth and William BARNSDALE. In 1907 James Henry STONE married my great grandma Annie Louisa STEER - she did not know that he was already married. I don't know what happened to Alice or if she had any children with James. My great grandfather William Tupper was married to Fanny Powell & in 1891 was living in Coldharbour. He was a farm labourer . They had 4 children, Fanny, William, George & Emily. William went on to marry Florence May Pilgrim & was killed at the battle of the Somme. His son was my father John William. Does anyone have information on Walter Joseph Driver who was married to Edith Oliver Watts Perkins in 1919. They lived in Vere Road and Buckingham Road for a short period in 1919. They had a son born in Sept 1919 who was adopted via an advert in the Evening Argos and he is my father. I have a few letters that passed between my adoptive grandparents and the Drivers but they stopped before Christmas of that year. Edith mentioned that a relative lived at one of their addresses so someone must have known of the child. He was born at an address in Preston, probably a nursing home, and the birth certificate shows Walter Driver as a bus conductor. My father is 86 and still alive and I would love to find some information for him.

I am looking for anyone who is a relative or has knowledge of my mother Irene Joyce Drake, born in Brighton in 1920, address on bc is 53 Belgrave street, Brighton, and her mother Edith Clara Drake,formerly stanford. Edith was married to Arthur James Drake in Brighton in 1895. My mother also had a sister Lilian (or lily) Drake, who married arthur, who's surname I am also searching for, as I would like to trace his family. I know they lived in Worthing when Lily died in the 70s. I also think my mum had a brother, but he died before she was born. My mother's grandfather (presumably stanford), was a clergyman,and was originally from Ireland. Any info anyone can give me on this would be really appreciated.

Henry East and his family lived at 6 Dorset Rd, Brighton in the 1891 census.There is no mention of any of the family in the 1901 census. I cannot find any Death records, but have not looked at local Brighton records. Can anyone throw any light on what happened to this family.
