red mail Henry Packham / Peckham Born 1779
I am having trouble finding a baptismal record or in any way identifying the parents of my Great Great Great Grandfather Henry Packham. Henry married Kezia Goldsmith in Hellingly in 1799 the couple had at least 4 children; Henry, William, Kezia and David. I am descended from David. In the 1841 Census the family were living at Worlds End Farm at Gun Hill, Hellingly. By 1851 however Consumption has taken the lives of most of the family and those that remain have left the farm. Henry gave his place of birth as Chailey but I have not been able to find evidence of a family of Peckhams or Packhams having children at Chailey at that time, there is certainly no record of a baptism for a Henry Packham in or after 1779. I have noticed that there were a family of Packhams living at Barcombe who in the census records gave their place of birth variously as both Chailey and Barcombe, this family appears to be connected with the Packham family of Fletching and possibly those in Newick too. I wonder if anyone researching these familys has come across a baptismal record for a Henry Packham or Peckham in or after 1779? If you have I would be very pleased to hear from you! Mike
