red mail Smith family
I am trying to build my family tree. I have got stuck pre-1881 census. I have found the Smith family on the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census living in Woodcote Place, West Norwood. In 1881 George Smith and his wife, Elizabeth and their sons Andrew (b.1879), Frederick (b.1881), George (b.1874), John (b.1871) and daughters Phillis (b.1868), Harriett (b.1866) and Elizabeth (b.1876). In 1891 George and Elizabeth and their sons Arnold (b.1886), Frederick (b.1881) and daughters Phillis (b.1868), Etty (b.1889), Elizabeth (b.1876) and Betty (b.1884). From the above census I can only assume that sadly: Andrew, George and Harriett did not survive. John, by then aged around 20 did not live there any more until he appears again as head of the house on the 1901 census, but I have as yet to trace where he was until then. In 1901 John and his wife Euretta Jane and son John Henry (b.1898) and daughter Euretta A (b.1899). By 1911 the family had moved to 24 Gibsons Hill, Upper Norwood In 1911 John and Euretta Jane and sons John Henry (b.1898), henry Stanley (b.1905), George Edgar (b.1903) and daughter Euretta A (b.1899). John Henry was my grandfather and George was my great-grandfather- they were both bricklayers. John Henry and his wife Ivy (Lawrence) had my mother, my aunt and my uncle - also John Henry who also had his own building company. If anyone has any recollections of my this party of my family, I would be interested to hear from them. Nany thanks for reading my story so far.
Birth Certificate Elizabeth Pretoria Clarke
Elizabeth Pretoria Clarke was the daughter of William Henry Clarke and Margaret Mullanny she was born in West Norwood on 24th November 1900 . I ordered a birth certificate during research of Elizabeth Pretoria Clarke, only to find it is the incorrect person I required. Since there seems to be nowhere to send incorrect copies of certificates to that I am aware of. I am wondering if any of her descendants might be glad of this copy, which they are welcome too. The certificate was charged at £9 25,from GRO, but I do not want reimbursement for it , A4 SAE would suffice. It seems a shame to destroy this document, if it is of use to another. I am sure this happens a lot in research, and can prove quite costly.

red mail Norwood Surrey UK
Searching for Boyd ancestors in Norwood pre 1825, specifically for birth of John, father William.
Can anyone shed light on the Broad family who were living at Mount Villas in the 1940s/50s. He was James or possibly Benjamin, a master builder, she was Mary Zela. They had (at least) 3x daughters called Mary (Dolly) who married Frederick Beuamont and who lived in Brighton; Louise who married Sidney Bisson and lived in Rodwell Road, SE22, and Maude who married Harry Holby and who also lived in Brighton. He was known as Grandpa Jim to my late mother, Zela Elaine (Peggy) Imisson nee Beaumont. There is some mystery around his surname which at some stage is believed to have been Strong. Possibly he adopted his mother's surname from a second marriage. Any leads connected with the Mount Villas address would be most welcome.
