red mail Jenkin family of Builders & Decorators.
I have several ancestors of the name Jenkin who lived in Upper Norwood. The addresses include Westow St (14, 44 & 25), Carberry Rd (12, 2 & 4), 14 Dulwich Wood Avenue, and 21 Hawke Rd. They were originally Stonemasons from Egloskerry, Cornwall, who moved to South London in search of fortune as Builders at the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries. I particularly want to know of Robert Henry Jenkin of 25 Westow St (!891 census and P.O. Directory) This address is called Forester's Hall together with no. 27, according to Google Streetview. It used to be a courtroom and is currently preserved from demolition. I am wondering if this was actually no 25 in 1891? Anyone researching this family please get in touch.
Jenkins/Hurrell and baby Georgina
Looking to solve a family secret. Florrie Hurrell was a servent in a house in Fox Hill. We believe the family of the house were called Jenkins and Mrs Jenkins may have been a Conservative party member or just a staunch Conservative. In 1935 and in her early 30's Florrie Hurrell had a baby Georgina and was sent away to Rustington near Littlehampton to have the baby. We believe she was allowed back into service with the same family. I am looking for anybody, perhaps from the Jenkins family of Fox Hill (off Church Rd)who may have this secret in their past. Those involved are long gone but perhaps there is somebody out there who may know who Georgina's father was. Or anybody with knowledge of the household at the time i.e other servents etc. Thanks to anyone who can help.
