Samuel Octavious Newcomb and wife Sara O'Connor had a child Caroline Elizabeth born in Richmond 5/10/1812. Samuel was the British Commissary in Spain until lost at sea in ??.Caroline then returned to England but eventually emmigrated to Tasmania landing at Hobart in August 1833. On 7/4/1836 Caroline was engaged as a governess to the Batman family at Port Phillip. She eventually teamed with Anne Drysdale and they became substantial land owners on the Bellarine Peninsula, Victoria. Can find no reference to Samuel in any data base, help would be welcome

I am trying to trace my GG Grandparents. Charles Cole 1870c married Elizabeth Ann Soper in1893. I have found a birth for charles cole in Richmond but not sure if he is the one also the marriage of these two was Richmond. The only Elizabeth Soper born around the 1870c was from Totnes. They had 2 children Albert 1894- 1917 (WW1) and Marjory Violletta 1896. I found the children living as boarders in the 1901 census in Fawley Hampshire. In 1901 Elizabeth Ann Cole married a John Eldridge at Marchwood Hants. Any info would be helpful. Why would children be boarders when the mother was only 4 miles away. They all eventually lived in a pub The Orchard Inn Marchwood

William Snow Rogers married Hannah Bramwell Miller. Ran an arts and crafts shop in Burlington Arcade and was the author of many gardening books. They had two daughters. Ethel,1885, who married Frederick Charles Moscrop-Young (formerly Young after mother)whose father was Samuel Slater Moscrop .She had three sons, Rowland dying in 1942 with medal for bravery, Leslie who died in 1996, childless, and a living son who had two children. Ethel died at the end of 1937 of cancer. Dorothy Rogers married Gwilym Thomas Evans in 1914 in Australia but deserted him in 1921 returning to UK with David B and Trevor G Evans. Until 1968, the large department store in Richmond (on the site now occupied by Dickins & Jones) was Gosling's, founded by my ancestor John H. Gosling in 1795. I have a great deal of information about the family and the business which I would be happy to share with anybody who is interested. What I am now looking for is information as to the origins of John H. Gosling himself (abt 1753-1845) and his wife Jenny (abt 1764-1837, maiden name unknown). The 1841 census shows that John was not born in Surrey; Jenny was already dead by then, so I have no idea where she was born. Any information which would help me trace their origins, including information as to their marriage which I have yet to trace, would be greatly appreciated. Their five children were born 1799-1806.

My Aunt died around two years ago at Hucclecote (Gloucester)and we picked up some of her personal effects from a local solicitor. We went through some of them only recently. Amongst them was a box of old photos. They have no connection with our family and assumedly belonged to someone who died around the same time in the same area. The names on the photographs are largely Wells, Knott and Simms. The locations are Gloucester, Belfast, Richmond, Warrington, Sale and Epsom. There are several photos of family members in the RN. If anyone can help me put these family memories into the right hands I would be very much obliged.
