red mail Thompson, Bickell, hatters in Bermondsey, Mary Hilton
Looking for any information on William Thompson, hatter, born Burton Staff about 1799, and living in Chatham Place in 1841 with 2nd wife, Mary Ann nee Letty. May have had an illegitimate son, George William Thomson, born 1833, baptised 1838. He married Sarah Bickell, daughter of John Bickell, also a hatter, resident in Chatham Place in 1841. Also looking for any information on G W Thomson's mother who was probably called Mary, but may also have gone under name Jane. Her age is unclear from census, but probably born 1798, in Newington. On her death cert in 1886, described as Mary Hilton, widow of John Hilton, calico bleacher. Have not been able to trace any marriage for Mary Thomson to John Hilton, nor any census entry for a John Hilton. Have no other surnames for her, and assume she adopted the surname Thomson. Cannot find census entry for her in 1861 or 1871.
red mail William Watts of Newington
Researching the family of Amelia Caroline COLLINGS/COLLINS and William WATTS of Newington and later Camberwell. Amelia was born about 1827 in Bermondsey, a daughter of Mary Anne and William Collings. I believe William Watts was born about 1821 in the Channel Islands, a son of Sarah POVEY and John Watts. Amelia and William had one son I know of, William John, born in 1845 in Newington. He emigrated to Ontario, Canada and later the United States. William John WATTS is found in Canada at a young age so I suspect his parents died young. I don't know if there were any siblings, but Amelia was also nursing a child during the 1851 census, Mary Ann SEABROOK. Would like to connect with anyone researching this family.
