red mail Clapham Home for Boys - Eric and Cyril Johnson 1923 - 1928
In an autobiographical note my father's younger brother Eric Harry Johnson (born 8th February 1912) states that: "When I was about 11 years old (i.e. 1923), the family broke up because we had not paid the rent. We got evicted from our house in Clapham, Bob (the eldest of the 3 brothers) went on to live in digs while Cyril (i.e. my father) and I went to the Home of the Good Shepherd, not far away. It was a very good home. We had a most enjoyable time there. After that when I started work the family got together again and we lived in Lewisham to start with and then onto Brockley and finally Lee, SE London". Internet research suggests that the home was the Clapham Home for Boys run by the Anglican Society of the Good Shepherd (Order of St Benedict). I would be very interested in any insights into the home and the background to the boys' admission if any records still exist. Best wishes, Keith

My Grandads place of death was 21,Littlebury road,Clapham. James Albert Colley was born in Lambeth and at sometime met with My nan Emma Gardner(who used to sell firewood and waxed flowers usually at the market, probably East Lane. James and Emma had a Son called Alfred in 1908,then in 1911 had a daughter called Florence Beatrice. Sometime between 1911 to 1916 they got married and then they had My dad,Walter Ernest. My Grandad only lived with the family until 1921/2,at 5,Colnbrook Street and then My Nan asked him to leave as he was always drinking, gambling and carrying on with other women. When My Dad was in his late teens he moved to Walworth somewhere,I know it was 11-19 Peabody Buildings.
