I am seeking info on William Briggs,(wharfinger born c 1813), in Battersea in 1871 census or directories. He is listed as married to Alice (Hart nee Travis) in 1861 census in 4 York Place Battersea. Who was living there is 1871? Alice Hart was widowed in 1859. With them in 1861 was Alice's son, Richard F H Briggs (who married as Richard Farmer Hart in 1874) and William's daughter Sarah Ann Briggs. I cannot find any of them in 1871 census. Need death dates for William and Alice. Help greatly appreciated

I am looking for descendants of Phyllis CARTER born 11/6/1916 in Battersea, London, England. She had a twin sister Lily CARTER who was adopted out to a family named TARBOX. I do not know if Phyllis was adopted as well with another family or if she remained with her birth parents. The birth parents were Edward Gager CARTER born Sept quarter 1881 in Lewisham, Kent and Eleanor ATTFIELD born Sept quarter 1885 in Englefield Green, Surrey. Edward and Eleanor married in Oct 1912 in Wandsworth, England. Edward was in the military during WW1 as a Sergeant in the 7th Middlesex Regiment. Lily was never told about her real family and only discovered she had a sister when Phyllis tracked her down at work. Unfortunately they didn't meet as Phyllis didn't wait when told Lily was on a meal break. We are descendants of Lily CARTER and would love to know if there are some living cousins around somewhere.

I am looking for any info about my great grandfather Frank Fuller born Clerkenwell c1865. His parents were Thomas and Harriet Fuller and he had 2 brothers, Philip and Henry. His father was born in Portslade, Sussex and gave his profession as bath proprietor employing several men. Thomas Fuller retired to Swanscombe, Kent after his wife died and remarried a younger woman and had 2 more children. Frank married Emma Jane Wadsworth c1890. They had 4 children, Florence, Frank, Claude and Winifred (my grandmother) In 1901 census they are living in Battersea, however he then deserted his family and eventually several years later they found out he had died. The Adams had moved from Devon via Guildford in Surrey and the Jordan's from Dorchester in Oxford via Esher, Kingston and Merton in Surrey. The families are linked by marriages. Any information on any of the families would be gratefully received but in particular, does anyone know anything about, or the whereabouts of Henry James Jordan (b 1861 in Dorchester) married to Sophia (born abt 1871 Hammersmith) and their children James (b 1894), Winnifred (b 1898) and Violet (b 1901)? Searching for info on my fathers family who originate from the Battersea area. His name was Richard William David Steer, (AKA Chas), and was born 13 Aug 1926. He served in Korea with the Kings Royal Irish Hussars, and in later years Zambia for the Zambian army. I'm aware of his 3 marriages and various offspring, but what interests me is his siblings and preceeding family. His father was David Frank Steer b19 Apr 1881 who was a tram driver, conscientious objector during WW1 and rescue worker in the Blitz. He was married twice had at least one son, (Frank), from his first marriage, but my grandmother is his wife from his second marriage, Grace Mary Vincent. My Great Granparents were Alfred William Steer and Martha Charity Gladstone who had at least 10 children, and my great great Grandparents were Edward Steer and Sarah Napier. I have lots of other names and dates but am eagre to find any family members with stories/photos they are willing to exchange.

Does anyone know the origin of the name HILLIER ROAD or who it was named after? It formed part of the Broomwood Park Estate and was named in 1880, presumably by the architects.

Mary Inman married James Tarling, market gardener around 1820. She died at "Latchmere" 18.8.1849 having had one daughter - Fanny and perhaps a son Frederick. James remarried and Fanny married William Barton. We have conflicting information of where Mary was born and to whom. Any help would be appreciated.

William Fox moved to Battersea from Stoford (near Yeovil) in the mid-1880s, living first at 35 Duffield Street and then 8 Totteridge Road. He had children: Albert Edward (1877), Melina Polly (1878), Minnie Ethel (1879), James Charles (1882), Emma Jessie (1884), Lottie (1886), William Augustus (1887), Gladys (1890), Violet (1892) and George (1896).
