Looking for Balaam/Baalham/Balaham - (Boxted - Suffolk)
Charles Balaam born around 1844, born and lived in Boxted, Suffolk. He married Harriett (born 1845 maiden name as yet unknown). His parents were James Balaam (born 1806, Boxted) and Sarah (born 1820 possibly Oxford, Oxfordshire,(maiden name as yet unknown). I think from looking at various census that they went by the names of Balaam, Baalham and also Balaham. There is also a bit of strangeness. Sarah was very young and in the records is said they had a son by the name of Benjamin, however he was only 5-10 years older than Sarah so she could not have been his mum but more likely his stepmum. Looking at the marriages prior to 1837 I can find that a James Balaam married a Mary Brown in 1832. I think that maybe he married Mary and was widowed or divorced from her and then some time between 1837 - 1841 he married his much younger wife, Sarah and then they had more children, including Charles. Confused? Yes I am. I think James Balaam was a carpenter later in life and lived in Hadleigh, maybe a second career. There was also a James Balaam listed on the 1841 census as a patient in Charing Cross Hospital, however this person was a blacksmith. Maybe he had an accident and changed career. These people may not be linked though even though they have the same name and year of birth. James Balaam on one place is said to have died 1868 however I found him listed on the 1871 census and elsewhere he is said to have died 1875, so that is more likely as he was not on 1881 census. I am looking for any information related to these people please. I am particularly interested in finding out the maiden name of Harriett Balaam and Sarah Balaam as these two at the moment are stopping any progress. Thankyou, Becky.

red mail Taylor, John - Blacksmith, circa 1829 - (Bradfield St Clare - Suffolk)
I'm seeking any info for John Taylor, born late C18, in Suffolk - probably the Bury/Stowmarket area. He is named in several Deeds of Covenant relating to the Copyhold tenure of a Blacksmith's shop in Mickfield, Suffolk, dating from 1817 to 1836. Taylor describes himself as a blacksmith in some of the documents, while in others he says he is a farmer. John Taylor says he is from three separate villages: Battisford (1817), Bradfield St Clare (1829), Rattlesden (1836). There is also a John Taylor, Farmer, born 1796, on the Mickfield Census of 1841.
