I am researching Mary Ann Girling, who moved to Ipswich c.1846 upon her marriage to George Stanton Girling. She became a class leader in a local Wesleyan Methodist Chapel. I would appreciate any information on Wesleyan Methodism in Ipswich for theperiod 1846 - 1872, and details of any surviving records that may elucidate class leadership or chapel membership. I am also keen to discover more about George Stanton Girling, husband of Mary Ann and father of William Walter and Mary Jane.

I am researching my Hamblin ancestors I am in receipt of about five separate Hamblin family ancestral trees going back to about 1600 - 1700. Two of them from Australia. My own branch of the Hamblin tree originated in Ipswich, Suffolk, and the earliest record I have is of one George Hamlyn being apprenticed to a Butcher, Owin Jolly. George became a Freeman of Ipswich in 1621 as have The majority of the generations since. The Hamblin family were quite wealthy land and ship owners, as their willstestify and had large families. For my own part I am looking at filling in the gaps in my own tree and it Is possible that you may be able to furnish me with some information. In particular I am looking for descendants of the following: - George born1666 son of Samuel Hamblin and Elizabeth, he had two brothers Samuel and Robert. - Robert born 1722 son to Robert and Sarah Grimwood - Samuel born about 1700 son of Samuel Hamblin and 1st wife Alice, he died in 1764. The Builder 1868 Vol XXVI . 9th May 1868 343 New Lunatic Asylum for Ipswich At last week's meeting of the town council the Town Clerk read the report from the Lunatic Asylum Committee, stating that they had received the following tenders for the erection of the asylum according to the plans approved by the last meeting of the town council. viz :- William Root, plumber, etc £1,658 T. Stearn & Son plumber etc £1,618 J. Chinnock & Co, stonemasons £1,430 D & E Haggar, Plumbers etc £1,621 James Frewer, stonemasons £1,580 J.C.Lucas, plumbers etc £2,008 Robert Ireland, stonemasons £1,110 For the whole work. W.G.Cunnold £20,180 William Kent of London £20,270 W.C.Penny of Lewisham £20,585 Henry Luff £19,980 Edward Gibbons £19,390 George Hewitt £19,700 The committee held two meetings for the examination of these tenders, and ultimately resolved that the tender of Mr Edward Gibbons should be accepted. The adoption of the report was agreed by the Council.The committee have engaged the services of Mr Edmund Catchpole as clerk of the works, at 3 guineas a week.
