red mail Hollinsclough and Coates Town - (Hollinsclough - Staffordshire)
My Grandfather John Coates was born in Hollinsclough, per my father. He was the son of James H. Coates who married Matilda Pauldan Newton. The father of Matilda was Rev. Charles Newton and his wife was Matilda Buxy. The James H. Coates and family arrived in the United States in 1899 and went to Utah to work for the Railroad. In 1901 James H. Coates died leaving his wife and young family behind. The childern that could work went to work, the others where put upto adoption, but those we understand died. While on vacation in England, we went to Hollinsclough and learned of Coates town while doing family research and that the family did silk weaving. I highly suspect we are related to the family that was in Coates town. I was told the family moved to Manchester as they where getting older. Does anyone have knowlage of this family? I am searching for the entry on the 1911 census for my Grandmother (Nellie Matthews born 1910) and her parents (John Enoch Matthews and Phoebe Annetta Williams (sometimes known as Nettie)). For more than a generation the whole family lived in 2 streets in Middleport which no longer exist. The streets were Brindley Street and Freehold Terrace (which I believe backed on to Middleport Park), and sisters, brothers, aunts and uncles were all there spread across a number of houses. I have birth/marriage and death certificates that show that my Gran and Great Grandparents were in this area around about 1911, but they are not on the census! It is the only hole in my otherwise well researched family history and I need to solve it but I need help because I am stuck. I live in West Wales, so my trips to the Potteries are few and far between, which doesn't help. If anyone has any suggestions on how I can find out where they are, I would be delighted to hear from you, otherwise I guess I will have to go down the root of assuming that there is a census or transcription issue. I hope someone out there can help! Thanks

Gertrude Adelaide Hollins was born in 1876 in Morrillow Heath, Staffordshire. She was my grandfather's sister. She is recorded in the 1891 census living in Lancashire but then seems to disappear. red mail French/Russian/Jewish - (Moxley - Staffordshire)
Hi I have had replies from Curiosity fox readers to my French connection query as to the name Durnel or Durnall. It would appear that Kate Durnall c 1867 was the daughter of George Durnall and Sarah Bromley. Kate had siblings with Jewish names -Keziah, William, Stephen, Simeon, Absolam, George and Benjamin. Would anyone know of any Jewish connection of the family. Many of the family members knew French as well as English and we found correspondence from a family who lived in a French Chateau. Any information would be appreciated.
