red mail Augustine Busby (c. 1815), and William Busby (c. 1840)
My great grandfather married Harriett Elizabeth Hobbs in 1888 (Birmingham). At that time, he stated that he was William Busby (widower) and his father was Augustine (deceased). This looks like Augustine Busby, who (in 1841) lived in Finstock with his son William. But in the 1891 and 1901 censuses, he have his place of birth as on board ship (Irish Sea), and the William Busby from Oxfordshire was reported by his first wife Hannah to be still alive (but absent) in the 1871 census; she married again a few years late. So maybe this is a case of bigamy. Any help would be welcomed.

red mail Robert Victor WALKER & Lilian WALKER
I am trying to locate anyone that knew or knew of my Grandfather Robert Victor Walker (Documentation indicates that ‘Victor’ is an assumed name as it does not appear anywhere until he marries grand-mother Emily on 26 November 1906) and his daughter Lillian Walker. Robert V was born 23 April 1875 in Rabone Lane Smethwick. He died on 4 March 1955 in the Birmingham Accident Hospital after being run over. Indeed, if anyone recognises ANY of the names I’ve mentioned below I would be delighted to hear from them also! Robert Victor had a daughter named Lillian Elizabeth Walker (we think that Elizabeth may be an assumed middle name.) and according to the 1901 census she was aged 3 meaning she was born about 1897-8. Her Mother is unknown and her birth certificate can not be found. Lillian was brought up by Robert Victor and his Wife Emily Thompson (b. 18 March 1879) they were married 26 November 1906. Lillian apparently had a relationship – no marriage records found – with a Raymond Howel/ls in the Oldbury area. Lillian’s Death Certificate indicates that she was Lillian Elizabeth ‘Peat’ at the time of her death in October 1950. She was living in 39 Pottery Road Warley Oldbury immediately prior to her death. We believe that Lillian married James Peat but can not find a marriage certificate. We do know that during the Second World War, Lillian worked for a company called Rowley Regis Quarries who provided ‘fill’ for airport runways, apparently for the RAF. She had a company car, so may have been part of the Management Team. Robert and Emily moved into ‘Back’ 61 George Street in Smethwick and had 8 other children, among them, my father William Arthur Walker (b. 1918) and my Aunt Louisa (b. 1916). In 1930 they moved to 16 The Horseshoe Warley, where Aunt Lou lived until 1984 shortly before her death in 1985. My father William (Bill) Walker enlisted with the Royal Leicestershire Regiment and served for a time on the Western Front. He was then moved to Singapore just prior to the Fall of Singapore, and was a Japanese PoW on the Burma Railway until the conclusion of the War in 1945. Robert Victor¹s parents were Robert Walker and Phoebe Billin/gs. He had a brother Edward whose birth was about 1879. Phoebe Billins b. 9 March 1842 and Robert Walker b. 20 February 1839 were married on 17 November 1861. It is believed that Robert Walker Senior passed away around 1880. Phoebe went on to marry Thomas Dickens on 4 August 1883. In the 1891 Census Phoebe appears as “Dickens” aged 50 along with: Thomas Dickens aged 61 (her ‘new’ husband) Robert Dickens aged 16 (this is Robert Victor) b. 23 April 1875 Edward Dickens aged 12 b. abt. 1879 It is assumed that Robert and Edward took the surname ‘Dickens’ when Phoebe married Thomas Dickens. Robert Victor reverted to Walker when he married Emily. In the 1901 Census Phoebe is there as Dickens aged 61 Robert Dickens aged 26 (this is Robert Victor) Lillian Walker aged 3 (this is Lillian Elizabeth – daughter to Robert Victor and whose Mother is unknown.) In the 1901 Census they were living at 61 Bridge Street Smethwick. They were all known as “Dicken” at this time, as Phoebe had married again to Thomas Dicken. Neither Thomas Dicken nor Edward are mentioned in the 1901 census, nor can they be found elsewhere. It is assumed that they had died by 1901. Robert Victor is “Walker” on both his marriage and death certificates. However, his birth certificate shows his father as “Thomas” WALKER. We have confirmed that Robert Walker and Phoebe were married in 1861. Robert Victor was born in 1875 while Phoebe and Robert were still married, why then is Robert Victor’s father noted as “THOMAS”? After Robert Walker Senior passed away, Phoebe married a “THOMAS” Dickens. When my Father’s (William Arthur Walker) brother, Uncle Bob was born, he was Emily and Robert Victor’s first son, his birth was registered: ROBERT WILLIAM THOMAS WALKER Phoebe’s 1st husband Emily’s Father Phoebe’s 2nd husband I do hope that someone can help!

Annie Louisa Phillips married Harry Harper at St Matthews church in July 1910. Her father's name was John. Private Samuel Lissemore
Seeking family information on Samuel LISSEMORE, born in Smethwick, probably just before 1900 but possibly as early as 1885. Samuel enlisted in the army in Smethwick (date unknown but possibly 1917) during WW I. He was attached to the 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Chatsworth Rifles) and eventually posted to Flanders. On 16th April 1918, near the town of Wytchate (now Wijtschate), Belgium, during a planned counter attack on trenches previously lost to rapidly advancing German troops, Samuel was one of thirteen "other ranks" killed in action. He now lies in the Reservoir Cemetery of Ypres (Ieper). If you have any information regarding his date of birth, family etc, please let me know. I have some information on his military service based on limited research at Kew. His main records were destroyed during the air raids on London in WW II. Wijtschate is approx. 5 miles south of Ieper.
Information sought about: Gladys WESTWOOD (nee. LISSEMORE), wife of George WESTWOOD. Last known address of Dibble Road, Smethwick. Known to have had at least two children, John and Eileen. If still alive, John and Eileen would be aged late 60's to early 70's.

I am looking for information about my Fathers relatives. He was born in 1925 in Birmingham and his name is Alfred Richard Adney. Any help from anyone would be great.
red mail Spencer Butler Tucker Dalton Iddles Smith Faulkes
My maternal grandfather was raised as David Charles SPENCER using his mother's maiden name, although she registered him as David Charles BUTLER after his natural father. However, David senior declined to acknowledge his son; a tragedy as my 'Pop' wasa loving, hard-working, mild mannered gentle man and a son to be proud of in more enlightened times. Without wishing to rattle any unknown skeletons it would be great to know if he had any half brothers/sisters in the Smethwick area. 'Pop' was bornon the 14 April 1894 and all that is known is his father had a brother who was a file manufacturer 'Messrs Butler & Tucker, Hume Street, Smethwick' This information comes from a copy letter I have, written 23 July 1931, by E.C. Dalton 25 Corbett Street, Smethwick. Would welcome contact from anyone who has information to add, however apparently insignificant. Update on above: From 1901 census it would appear that the brother is Joseph BUTLER living at 36 Hume St. Smethwick with wife Ellen and children; Ada, Florence, Alice, Willie, Lydia, Emma and Joseph (Jnr). David Charles BUTLER is shown at 23 Corbett St. Smethwick with sisters Sarah BUTLER and Maria IDDLES and niece Louisa IDDLES. Update: David Charles BUTLER went on to marry Florence SMITH in Sep qtr 1910 at Old Church, Smethwick. Florence's address is given as High Street Smethwick; Witnesses George (J?) Willis FAULKES (nephew of DCB possibly ) and Agnes Maud SMITH
