red mail BOWER - QUAKER
Henry Bower & Hannah Hammersley were married 1708 at Cheddleton as Quakers. They had several children. Henry Bower originally from Ashover in Derbyshire (son of Henry & Mary Bower). My ancestor, William Bowers, added an 's' to his name to disassociate himself with Quaker roots when he married outside of Quaker community in 1747 to Margaret Tomkinson - the couple moved south to Hilderstone.
