My 4G Grandparents, William BAKER and Mary MITCHELL (who were married on 26 Feb 1818 at Withycombe, Somerset) had their first child - my 3G Grandfather, John BAKER - at Withycombe in 1818. However, the BAKERs moved to Withiel Florey soon after, and had at least four more children there: William BAKER (1823); Mary BAKER (1826); Robert BAKER (1828); and Thomas BAKER (1830). My John BAKER (born in 1818 at Withycombe) lived with his wife, Mary FARMER, at Withiel Florey for many years and they had a number of their children there. John's sister, Mary BAKER (born 1826, Withiel Florey) married James VICKERY and they and their family eventually moved to Lancashire. Thomas BAKER (born 1828, Withiel Florey) married Elizabeth TUDBALL in 1863, and they and their children lived variously at Winsford, Brompton Regis and Luxborough, Somerset. If anyone has a link to any of these families, I'm always happy to share info.

My x3G father William Tarr born 1817 married first wife Mary Anne Surridge 1839 and had 5 children. He farmed Castle Hill farm at Withiel Florey up until his death in 1893. His mother Jane died 1853 there as well. If any one can throw any light on further info I would be thrilled to know more.

James Fry, born 2nd August 1887 at Brendon Hill Cottage later moved to Brendon Hill Farm with his parents and 9 siblings. In 1911 he married Eva Ann Warren and shortly after they moved to Castle Hill Farm. Jim was farm manager for Tom White, and early in the 1930`s his brother George returned from working as a coalminer in Pontypridd and he stayed with Jim and Eva,and worked on the farm. I was born in 1932 and in the early 1940's they moved to Huish Champflower.

I have traced one branch of my family back to a Christian Battle(1715-1748) who married John Purnell on 30th March 1741 in Stowey. Her father was Richard Battle (1676-1732)originally from West Harptree, and her grandfather Robert Harptree from Withycombe. A history of High Littleton shows that the village was held in 1316 by William de Bataille and I am looking to see if there is any connection. I would welcome any information.

I have a Mary MITCHELL baptised at Withycombe on 2 Feb 1790, daughter of Henry MITCHELL and Elizabeth "Betty" WATTS, who married on 25 March 1788 at Carhampton, Somerset. They also had a daughter Joan MITCHELL, baptised 2 Dec 1788 at Withycombe, though I haven't yet been able to discover what happened to her. Mary MITCHELL married William BAKER on 26 Feb 1818 at Withycombe - they were my 4G Grandparents. Henry MITCHELL was baptised on 5 Dec 1756, Withycombe, the son of Henry MITCHELL and Joan OTTWAY, who were married on 2 Nov 1755, Withycombe. Joan OTTWAY was a widow, and had previously been married to William BREWER - their marriage was on 19 Feb 1736 at Withycombe. William BREWER died in 1753, and he was buried at Withycombe on 24 Jan 1753. Is anyone else connected to the OTTWAY, BREWER, BAKER or MITCHELL families? Happy to share info.

My g/grandmother,Eliza Mary Clarke Balmond was born in Withypool in 1852. Her mother was Anne Balmond, no fathers name recorded. Eliza married Oliver Taplin in 1876. I believe Anne died in 1859.

In the 1891 census is an entry re Bertie Thomas aged 4 born London, he is living at Millcleave, Withypool with my 2 greats grandfather John Steer and his 2nd wife Mary Crocker nee Trout. John Steer had lived at Exford as a blacksmith from 1832 until his 1st wife Agnes nee Hoyles died in 1876 and in 1879 he married Mary Crocker at Dulverton Registry Office, I know what happened to Bertie after he arrived at Withypool but can anyone tell me why/how he was sent from London to Withypool ?

Samuel May (b1791) was born in Woolley to Thomas and Sarah May (nee Rumsey). Other children were: Hannah 1777-1792, Ann 1779, Thomas 1781, Mary 1783, Joseph 1785, Sarah 1787 and James 1893. Samuel and Thomas (jnr) married and lived in Keynsham but would be interested in any info on the other surviving children. Or info on the next generation back.

In tracing my Prowell History, it has led me to England and just recently I found in the UK Archives copy of a promissory note of Thomas Webb about Mr. Prowel's estate at Woolston. The date of this is January 25, 1727. Is there anyone out there who may know anything about any Prowell's in this area in this time frame or earlier. I have a James Prowell, who immigrated to America in the very early 1700 and settled in the Welsh Tract of Chester County, Pennsylvania, USA. I am trying to find where he came from, he had a wife Mary ant at least a son Charles who may have been born in England before they immigrated. Any help appreciated. This is my brick wall.

They have 4 children from 1745 to 1752 baptised at Worle. *************** OR *************** 1753 Nov 12 Edward Beacham & Ann Watts married by banns at Worle. They have 8 children from 1754 to 1769 baptised at Worle. *************** And there is a William Beacham buried at Worle: 1801 Apr 23 William Beacham buried. So we have to assume there is at least one William Beacham born in Worle. We don't know the age of the one buried there though. A visit to the Worle tombstone might answer that by giving dates. *************** Charles

Searching, in the early 19th century, for the family of John Glisson and his daughters Ann, who was born about 1827 and married Frederick Francis Crabb on 2nd November 1852 in London, and Rebecca, who was born about 1832 and married Thomas Webb on 4th December 1852 also in London. It is thought that both John and his daughter Ann may have been inmates of Ilchester gaol at some time. Rebecca, it is thought may have been in a workhouse/poorhouse in Yeoviton in 1841. Any information regarding the family would be appreciated.
