red mail Fields/Veal of Lympsham - (Lympsham - Somerset)
I have been researching the Field(s) family of Lympsham for some time and have quite a lot of information about the family during the 19th century. They were firmly entrenched in and around Lympsham. However, I have just discovered that some of the early 19th century baptism records give the name as 'Field alias Veal'or 'Veal alias Field'. I am fascinated to discover why this was. If anyone is interested in either the Field/Veal family or knows something of the social history of Lympsham which may shed some light, I would be delighted to hear from them and share what I already know. Many thanks.

red mail Bobbett family - (Lyng - Somerset)
Hi I'm looking for information on Arthur Bobbett, who I believe to be from Lyng and born about 1781. I think his spouse was called Mary and he had a son named John (c 1812, who was a smithy/farrier))and possibly two daughters - Mary and Elizabeth? I am a little confused, as I have found 2 census entries with very similar families in 1841. As they are only a mile or so apart, I am wondering if they could be the same family, but staying at different places when the census collectors came around. If you can shed any more light on Arthur or John and their family, I'd be very greatful. Also, does anyone know where the smithy for the area would have been? Many thanks.
red mail HORSEY family of Maperton - (Maperton - Somerset)
I am researching my great great great grandfather, James HORSEY who was born in Maperton in 1801. He is recorded in 1841 and 1851 census as living in North Street, Wincanton and working as a 'Cooper'. He married Elizabeth MICHELL of Charlton Musgrove and they had ten children from 1826 to 1844, all in Wincanton. The 1861 census shows James to have become a 'Farmer of 33 acres employing one boy' at 'Verrington Farm', Wincanton, only a mile or so from the former North Street address. James died in 1864 at Wincanton. His second youngest son Henry HORSEY married Emma Jane GODFREY of Horsington at Wincanton in 1860, they had two sons Tom 1866 and Birt 1879. Henry and family migrated to New South Wales around 1880 where they pioneered the dairy industry at Byron Bay, 1892 - 1908, then Cooran and Atherton in Queensland until Birt passed away in 1959 at Cairns, Queensland, Australia. I am hoping to contact other researchers of the area especially if they know anything of the HORSEY family at Maperton, that is James' siblings and parents, cousins etc

My great, great grandfather, Ellis RUSSELL maried Sarah HANN, daughter of Edward HANN and Martha EGLON, in Odcombe in 1811. Sarah (as RUSSELL) died in 1856 and is buried in Preston Plucknett churchyard. Also buried with her are her husband Ellis (born ca 1790, died September 1832), her daughter Charlotte (born 1816, died the day before her father), her son John my great grandfather, (born 1814, died 1846) and her daughter Mary Ann, born 1820, died 1823. There was also a third daughter, Sarah, who was baptised in 1818, but I haven't been able to find what happened to her yet. When Sarah HANN / RUSSELL died, in 1856, the informant, "present at the death" was one Thomas CHANT and I am trying to establish if there was any relationshiop between him and Sarah. The only Thomas I can find in the 1851 census was living in Yeovil with his wife, Sarah. Then, Thomas was 68 and his wife 61. I believe her maiden name was Kendrick, and that they were married in the West Midlands. As I live in Scotland, I don't get to visit Somerset too often, and would welcome any information anyone might have.
