I am researching the Kent family of Allerford in the parish of Selworthy, Somerset. The family were blacksmiths and farriers and the business went back, I believe, 300 years. Sadly the old forge at Allerford, which was next to the Post Office, has been demolished, and the Kents have not worked as blacksmiths in the village since about 1970. At present I am trying to trace the wife of Robert KENT (1832-1907). Her name was Mary and she was born in Porlock,Somerset about 1834. She married Robert Kent about 1860 and they had 7 children Charlotte Fry, Thomas, John, Herbert, Mary Ann, Edward and Emlie Fry. Could her maiden name have been Fry? The death certificate says she was "of Barwick," but the Parish register does not show her marriage or christening. She was buried in Barwick on 27 March 1842. Her husband, however, was baptized 25 Dec.1762 in Barwick. His parents were John Pert and Sarah Mudford, and they were married 7 Feb 1753 in Barwick. 1841 Census, living at age 70 with son-in-law John Higgins Her married name was variously spelled in different records as Part, Pert, Piart, Peart, Perrot. Two brothers, Robert Blake Woodward and John Deverell Stewart Woodward b 1848 & 1849 Bathford were sons of Richard and Mary (nee Stewart) Woodward. Richard a retired Indian Army man, remarried ca 1858 Harriet (maiden name unknown). Robert B and John D S Woodward became missionaries, went to America then in early 1870s to Natal South Africa where they were ordained into the Anglican Church in 1881. They were ornithologists and wrote the first study of Natal Birds (the title of their book)in 1899. The last reference to the brothers in SA is 1905. It's likely that they returned to England and died there - but where? They had at least one full sister, Rosina, and a half-sister Alice. I particularly need a photograph of the brothers, but any further information on the family or on the brothers' burial place welcomed. I'm not connected to the Woodwards, but am a genealogist and historian working in Natal and attempting to compile what will be the first full chronology of the lives of these two elusive individuals, after whom some Natal bird species are named.

My Grandmother Louisa was born in Bower Hinton 1873 maiden name Iullan or Irelan. The first time I find her is in the 1901 census when she shows married as Louisa Bunting address Stratton no. 97 three children LIVING ON OWN MEANS. Her husband Thomas Edward Bunting is away during the Boer War and the next time they all appear together as a family is 1911 Census in India. Can anybody help with this. She may possibly have moved to Ireland as first children was born in Cork 1896, before her return to Stratton, South Petherton via his Army Barracks in Colchester, Essex. As an addendum to the above, Martha Masters (Nee Butcher) is showing as the Grandmother on the death certificate of one of the children born in Ireland who sadly died in 1902 aged 6 (six) in South Petherton,Yeovil. This leads me to think that my Louisa may not have had the given name of Irelan. Further to above have now discovered marriage certificate of Louisa showing surname as IRELAN father Robt. (occupation-CARPENTER).No records of Robt. Irelan (Birth/Marriage/Death) can anyone help.
