red mail Pain Family In Winscombe @1790-1806
Would love to hear from anyone who knows anything about this family in this area before they moved to Bristol. I believe Simon & Mary Pain may have married and had some children in Cannington, moved to Winscombe before 1798, had 5 children(could be more) here, Edward,Simon,Elizabeth Roe,Reubin William,& Henery. On their son Simon's (my grt grt grt grandfather)marriage certificate it states that Simon was a farmer, 1841 census he is an agent in Bristol with his second wife Jane. Any little thing that could help me, even correct me if I'm wrong would be appreciated. Jen

HYDE of Winscombe, Somerset
I have a bit of a brick wall with the HYDE family in my tree. My g-g-grandfather William HYDE was apparently born in Winscombe, Somerset in about 1820. However, I cannot find a baptism despite the online transcriptions which a researcher has kindly provided. Perhaps he was born elsewhere but grew up in Winscombe. From his marriage certificate I know that his father was shoemaker/cordwainer Robert HYDE. Robert was apparently born in Gloucestershire around 1799(perhaps in Gloucester) and died in the workhouse at Merthyr Tydfil in 1861. I have no idea who his wife was. William HYDE also lived in Merthyr Tydfil / Dowlais from at the latest 1850, when he married my g-g-grandmother Mary DANIEL b Carmarthen, 1830. I cannot find either William HYDE nor his father Robert in the 1841 census. Any suggestions? connections?
