red mail Morse Family, Vempletts Cross
I am interested in finding out more about the Morse family who lived at Vempletts Cross, Nettlecombe, Williton from at least 1851 - 1881; Robert Morse (b circa 1817), a mason, and his wife Jane (probably nee Heard, from Carhampton). They had six children: Henry, Sarah, Elizabeth, Thomas, Jane and Emma between 1840 and 1848.Henry became a gamekeeper and lived for many years at Abbots Leigh, Bedminster nr Bristol, while his son Henry J Morse moved to the Abercarn area, South Wales, by about 1890,and became a coal miner.
red mail Quartley family, Williton Area
I am trying to find out about the Quartley family. William and Matilda Quartley, age 7 and 10, were living with James and Joan Browning at Back Street Cottage, Exford in 1841; I think Joan or Jane Browning may have been their mother, remarried after the death of their father, William Quartley at Tiverton, Devon in 1839. In 1851 William and Matilda were both living at Quarm Kitnor Farm, Cutcombe, Williton as servants, but by 1861 William was living in Plymouth working in a sugar refinery and had just married Mary Ann Abott from the Plymouth area. In 1869/70 they moved to Trehafod, Glamorgan with their three young sons, but in 1870 Mary Ann died. By 1881 Willam had remarried to Caroline (poss, nee Semmens) from Perran in Cornwall, and his sons were all working as coal miners. I am especially interested in William Quartley who died in 1839, and his family home.
