He appears to have been born in Culmstock. According to the 1841 census there were two John Strongs living in Culmstock. Mine, son of William, was born 1821 and the other, son of David, was born in 1820. Possibly they were related - but I have no knowledge of this.

Researching Thomas Hill and Jane Fry both born in Wellington in 1791 according to census data from 1841, 51, 61. Thomas, a mason married Jane in 1814 and had 10 children, eight of which lived to adulthood. This couple were my 3rd great grandparents. My 2nd Gr. Grandfather, George -b. 1831, moved to Bishops Hull, Chard, married Sarah Bragg and eventually moved to Preston, Lancashire. Georges' older brother, Thomas moved to Wales. My main interest in Thomas and Jane is proving their place and date of birth and finding their parents. I have some documentation for this lineage. Happy to share what I have.

One of the children was William (H)ewing Richards born June 1832 Wellington who went onto marry Penelope Bate December 1853 St Marychurch Devon. There were ten children from this marriage and the last child was Ellen Richards born March 1872 Bromley Middx. Ellen maried Frederick Adolphus Carder Popular Middx 1897.Looking for more info on any of the above especially the name Ewing or could be Hewing as used as a middle name three times in the Richard family tree so I think there is a female line of(H)Ewings somewhere back into this family

I am looking for Frederick Westcott or Frederick Ralphs specifc birthplace and dob. He married as a Ralph- Jane Hallard at the Baptist Chapel, South Street, Wellington in 1856. He was born 1826c. Other than that he lived as a Westcott and was always known as one in later life. His children were also Westcotts. Elizabeth having been born Buckwell Wellington in 1859. I suspect he was born as an illegitimate child to Elizabeth Ralph who married James Westcott and who were his parents on the appropriate Census Records. Can you confirm that? Does anyone have the parents for either line or both backwards?

Looking for more information on this family if anyone can help. James, born c1822 in Wellington. I think his father was Robert GILLARD. James married Emma ADAMS (formerly ROGERS) in Twerton in 1857. She had two children to John ADAMS, then two sons with James: Arthur Richard and Richard. Would like to know more about James's family in Wellington. Richard came to Australia in 1883.

I am researching my husbands family tree. Prior to her marriage his grt.grandmother was Jane Sanders, the daughter of James (Born c.1806) and Ann (formerly PYNE, born c.1808/9) Sanders. James, who was born in Uffculme Devon, was a carpenter. Ann was a descendant of John Westlake a builder from Wellington. James Sanders and his family moved to Bristol sometime between 1836/1839. If anyone has any info on the Pynes, Westlakes or Sanders I would be pleased to hear from them.

Trying to find info on John Fouracre and his family. My husbands grt, grt grandfather married a Fanny Fouracre born 1878 in London. Her parents were Walter James Fouracre born 1849 in Bristol his wife was Frances ? born 1855 in Bristol. In our family is a miniture painting with the portrait of John Fouracre, who is obviously related to Walter. Down family
William Down was born about 1838 and came from Wellington, Somerset. He married a woman called Sarah (surname unknown at this stage). They had three children, Elizabeth J., Frank, and a third child. In 1881 Frank worked at the paper mill in CreechSt. Michael, and some time after 1881 it is believed he and his family walked to Kent where he worked in another paper mill. It is unknown why he moved from one side of the country to the other but I have a photograph of him while employed over inKent. Looking for any leads on William Down and his wife.

A British philosophical writer, appointed professor of logic rhetoric and metaphysics at St. Andrew's University in 1864. He was assistant editor of the London Daily News and editor of the 9th edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica.
