I am trying to trace the parents of James Biggs, my 3X great grandfather, born on 17/7/1789 in Walcot. Married to Anne Grant (24/4/1820)then Hannah Mitchell (29/6/1824). I have found William Biggs and Mary Pritchard married 1/10/1788 in Walcot, however I think they may be the parents of James Biggs in the 1851 census born in Bath and living in Ross, Herefordshire.

Ann worked at the Bath Penitentiary (Ladymead House in Walcot)before departing to New York in 1851. Anthony the younger died in Delhi from apoplexy whilst serving with the British Army. Sarah married Henry GEAR and David married Elizabeth STONE. David COMMINGS is my G.G.Grandfather. Any info on Commings family appreciated. Researching the WORKMAN family from Walcot, Bath, particularly Thomas WORKMAN, born around 1819-1825 in Walcot, Bath (St Swithans), who was a shoemaker with connections to Gloucester, Cheltenham and subsequently moving to the Forest of Dean. Also seeking information on his father, Swanton WORKMAN born around 1790-1800, an engine pipe maker. Would be interested to hear from anyone with any connections to the Workman or Swanton surnames in the Bath area at this time.

I am looking for any info on a Thomas SURRIDGE, especially who his parents were and when and who he married. Approximate birth date yet to be found. His Parents could have been a Thomas Surridge and Sarah Williams who married on 2 Feb 1807 at Abbey or St. Peter and St. Paul, Bath , Somerset, (LDS) but I have yet to find a link. The 1841 census shows Thomas aged 30, and wife Mary, also aged 30, living in Bridewell Lane, Bath Somerset. His occupation appears to be that of a shoe maker(shortened to "sho m", though not very clear as written on the census), His wife Mary, is aged 30 and the children are Joseph, aged 14. Mary, aged 12 .Harriet, aged 11. Ruth, aged 8. and Rachell, aged 6. The Pigots Directory of Bath, Circa1844, showed a Thomas Surridge, Boot and Shoe maker of 20, Bridewell Lane. In this directory, there was also listed another Thomas Surridge, who was a Ladies' Shoemaker, of Holloway.

Hi - I'm lookin for information about a Davis family who lived for many years at 63 & 65 Avon Street, Walcot, Bath. I believe I have traced back to a George Davis b.1819 approx. I think this George Davis married twice (Elizabeth Rendall, Mary Anne Bolwell). I'm really interested in his mother and father - I THINK his father is a Samuel Davis, but I'm not too sure. And it could be Samuel was from Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire, but again can't be sure. John WILLIS died 18 November 1848 from Typhoid Fever at 3 Daford Street, Walcot, Bath at the age of 18. Son of Joseph WILLIS, Coachman, also of 3 Daford Street.

James Cox (c1781-1852) and Martha Perry (c1782-1857) were born in Weston (which one?) and were probably married there about 1803. Martha was the daughter of Richard Perry and Elizabeth (unknown). James and Martha moved to Bath where they lived from about 1805 to 1820. They had nine children baptized there at St. Swithin's, Walcot: Joseph (1806), James (1806), another Joseph (1807), Eliza (1810), Martha (1810), Anne (1813), Edward (1813), Frederick (1819), and Richard Perry (1819). James and Martha then moved to Bristol where two more children were baptized in St. Stephen's: Ellen (1823) and Robert (c1825). Ellen married Edward Maish, had a number of children and grandchildren and may well have descendants in the Bristol area. I would like to get in touch with anyone who may have information about this family.

They were from Wiltshire before this and Edward was described as "gentleman" when he died and Charlotte as "independent". Edward's son who came to Australia is my g.g.grandfather.

George ROPER, born Charmouth 1783, married in 1807 Elizabeth ANDREWS at St.Swithuns, Walcot. Their first child, Charles was born in 1809 at 3 Guinea Lane, Walcot. Later children were William (1810), Elizabeth (1812), Mary Ann (1814), Jane(1816), George (1819), Martha (1820) Sarah (1822) and George (1825) The family were still living there in 1841 George and his sons were carpenters and builders. They moved to London in 1866. Although several of the children married, the only spouse whose nameI know is Tryphene FREETHE, I would be happy to exchange information with anyone researching these families.
