red mail Stoke St Gregory War Memorial
The village's War Memorial is a plaque in the parish church, which lists 23 names. I have located a further 11 men with a connection to the village, and am presently trying to research the lives and service records of these men along with the circumstances of their death. I have listed below the names of the men, and would be grateful to hear from anyone who can help with my research. I would be particularly interested in having sight of any records which may be held by the men's families, such as letters or photographs. In return, I have photographs of the graves/memorials to most of the men when these are located in France/Belgium and have researched a good deal of the relevant military history. The names I have (in order of their death) are: Alec Hector, Tom Allen, George Beck, Herbert Miller, Charles Pocock, Howard Champion, Edwin Crofts, Howard Staple, Fred Dampier, Alan Pullen, William David, William Wall, Oliver Miller, William Hector, Ernest Palmer, Henry Langford, Herbert Coate, Henry Pocock, Samuel Wheadon, William Langford, Albert Champion, Thomas Painter, Walter Pimm Keirle, Charles Garland, Frederick House, Leonard Broom, Frederick Hembrow, Henry (Charles) Perry, Clifford Hembrow, William Rowsell, Herbert Slade, Ernest Hector
