red mail Search for whereabouts/marriage of James Brown
My g grandfather, James Brown was bapt Porlock 25 Dec 1836, the illegitimate son of Ann Brown. I can find him on 1841, 1851, 1871 and 1881 censuses but there is no trace of him in the UK in 1861. I have "lost" him from census night 1851 in Porlock until he turns up in Bristol and marries my biological grandmother in 1866. His marriage certificate shows him as a widower in 1866 and I would desperately like to find out about his first marriage. However, with such a common name and lack of information of his whereabouts between 1851 and 1866 I have had no success. I've looked at ALL the parish records for Somerset between the relevant years - no definite info. Can anyone out there help, PLEASE?
red mail Searching for Relatives
My great grandmother was Mary Jarvis who was born in Porlock in 1850. Her father was Joseph but I do not know her mother's name. At her marriage in 1886 to Alexander Hutchison in Cardiff the witnesses were John and Harriet Jarvis. She had a sister I believe who was Elizabeth who married a William Blackmore and they had a son Richard. Mary had three children Lucy, Mabel and Isabella. I am trying to find more about Joseph, Mary's mother and any other relations in Porlock.
