red mail BOULTON family of Tailors
I'm looking for information on the origin of my 4 x grt grandfather John BOULTON of Pilton Somerset. John was born about 1778-1782 and was baptised at St John the Baptist, Pilton in March of 1782. Betty WRINTMORE came from Glastonbury and was baptised there in August of 1773. She was 7 or 8 years senior to John. They married in March 1802 at St John's in Glastonbury then settled in Pilton or in a village or town close by. They had 6 children but only 3 boys & 1 girl survived into adulthood. All the boys followed their father into the tailoring business, By 1849 all the sons were in Australia John 1802-1874, William 1808-1861 & George 1816-1854. The first out were William & George they worked for a large tailoring firm in Sydney 1838. Ten years later My 3 x grt grandparents John & Susannah BOULTON nee HARLEY who married and resided in London arrived with his 8 children. Only two of his sons followed him into the tailoring business in Australia. The story from the family is that John married Susannah at King William's request after his first wife died in 1826. John is said to have been the Warranted Tailor to the King and Susannah was a Lady in Waiting for Queen Adelaide. I've tried to prove this many times over the years but without success. All I can say is John & Susannah lived the high life, Susannah insisted she be addressed as My Lady and John never worked a day in his life after arriving in Australia. So as the saying goes "Who Knows," I don't.

Phippen of Pilton and East Pennard, Somerset
Does anyone have any information about the family of Ralph Phippen (d 1667) and his wife Ann Phelpes (d 1675)? I have their wills from the National Archives, in which they name quite a lot of family members, but I can't put it all together. Their granddaughter Edith Rogers married James Banister, apothecary of Bristol, in 1695. The IGI for Pilton and East Pennard seem far from complete.
