red mail WOOLCOTT family
Researching the WOOLCOTT family who originated from West Somerset, incl Dunster, Minehead, Nettlecombe. My 5th great grandfather Thomas WOOLCOTT married Eleanor CROCKER in 1785. Their children were all born in Nettlecombe, Somerset. The family then moved to Dunster and later Minehead as they are recorded on the 1861, 1871 and 1881 census. A branch of my side then moved to Bridgwater around 1875 where they then settled. I am keen to trace back to see which line of my family are linked to the Wolcotts who emigrated to New England on the ship Mary & John in 1630. I would also like to hear from anyone researching the Woolcotts/Wolcotts and if there are any Woolcotts still living in the County. Regards, Phil Broomfield (Bournemouth, Dorset, UK)

red mail Ludlow Family, Dunster
> I wonder if anyone can throw any light (so to speak) on the window at St George's church, Dunster, dedicated to Walter Ludlow (1850-1909). It is very large and paid for out of public subscription, so WL was clearly a very popular person. I am asking because I am doing research on his son Frank Ludlow (born Chelsea, 1885-1972), a famous teacher/botanist/ornithologist/ diplomat in the Himalayas including Tibet between 1923 and the late 1940s. Walter Ludlow was a grocer in Chelsea according to Frank's birth certificate but the family has strong West Country roots and moved back (?)to Dunster when Frank was a boy. Frank attended Wellington (West Somerset County) school and his older brother Walter James Ludlow was vicar of Dulverton 1922-39 and later rector of Hawkschurch,Axminster, Devon. I know next to nothing else about the family and if anyone can help I would be most grateful. Many thanks, > > Michael
