Lansdown,Ernest George
Lived in Hamilton,Ont, Canada. I have a post card dated 21 Dec 1909 sent to his cousin Albert Garrett(my G.Uncle), post card shows a 22 month old child Thomas Ernest Lansdown born Toronto 19 Nov 1908 to Isabel Matthews. Ernie Lansdown or Ernest George was the illegitimate son of Ernest Lansdown, my Grandfather, and Kate Garrett my Grandmother who married, eventually, when Ernest George was 11. They never acknowledged him as he was farmed out to his step-Grandparents Meschak and Ann Dowling who lived 15 miles away in the village of Midsomer Norton. Aged 15 Ernest George was sent to Canada. He returned to England by 1897 as he is reported in a court case in which his Father threw a bread knife at him requiring Hospital treatment. In 1901 he appears as Ernest Garrett living in Rochester,Kent, working as a plumber. In February 1908 he married Isabal Matthews at Lewisham,London and then returned to Canada for the birth of Thomas Ernest in November of that year. The birth date for Thomas is in my late Mothers birthday book. He is on the 1911 Canadian census with his wife and son. An email from two Canadian researchers mentioned a Patricia Lansdown whose Father, William Ernest, had been to Bath, England, looking for his ancestors and it is very likely Patricia is a relative but her email address changed and I cannot make contact.
Although known as Frederick his full name was ALfred Richard Thomas Lansdown born Bath 1853 s/o Thomas & Eliza James. Not found after 1871 census. Story is he went to Australia looking for gold. Cannot find any trace of him in Australia but if anyone can help would be grateful.

red mail Shellard Family Bath
Please contact me with any info on the SHELLARD's of Bath. I have the following data - From the 1841 census (kindly looked up by Mike Walker) - SHELLARD family living in Ladymead, Bath (now part of Walcot Street) Robert, 30, Wheelwright Ann, wife,30 Frederick, son, 4 Edward Samuel, son, 2 Harriet Jane, dau, 2mths Edward Samuel then moved to London and married. According to the 1881 census the family are living at 17 Drummond Street, St Pancras - Edward, Fanny and children Walter (b 1868), Charles (b 1878) and Jane (b 1880). The IGI has baptism records for a Harriet Jane in 1866 and a Walter William in 1868 to Edward Samuel & Harriet SHELLARD. I'm not certain if Harriet = Fanny or if Harriet died and Edward remarried to Fanny. The gap in ages between Walter & Charles could suggest the second situation. In 1891 the family are still at Drummond Street and there are now 3 more children - Frances (b 1882), Frederick (b 1886) and Harriet (b 1891). There is no mention of Walter and Jane is now shown as Ann (same age so assumed same child). In 1901 only the women of the family are shown at home - Fanny is now a widow and is living with her daughters - Nellie (another name change for Jane/Ann???) age 21, Frances age 19 and Harr...
