Bath Union Workhouse Burial Ground
The Bath Union Workhouse Burial Ground is a rectangular plot with little evidence of its former use. It is still consecrated ground. Situated opposite Oolite Road - it provides a short cut for many local people. Just how many of those people know there are more than 3000 people buried there? Are any of your ancestors buried there? It would be great to have some feedback from you.
Kate Fox brick wall
I am researching my great great grandmother Kate Fox. She was born in Bath, Somerset in 1859/1860. I have found her in documents from 1879 onwards when she married Charles Coles, but nothing prior to that. On the marriage entry her father is John Fox. I have tried Freebmd, Ancestry, Family Search and FMP and am at a loss on where else to try. I keep putting her to one side, but every time I go back to her there is nothing. Would appreciate any help and advice, thank you, Maria

Daniel Whiting (Bath) A Workman's Daughter
I have at least two ancestors with the name Daniel Whiting. One worked in the printing trade. They both lived in Bath. By chance I found two articles in Bristol Central Library. Both were written by a Daniel Whiting in about 1871/2. One title was "A Workman's Daughter". The other was "A Wife at Home". Both articles were published / printed in Bath. Whilst I can only see one Whiting family living in Bath, I can't assume that my ancestor was the author of these articles - but I would like to think he was. Does anyone in the printing trade have the answer to this one?

red mail Miss Williams Bath 1918
I have very little to go on however maintaining hope that someone will read this one day and know instantly as ro whom it could have been in the "Williams" families in Somerset Bath 1918.This year is important as it was the ending of the war and the outbreak of a fy epidemic. A "Miss Williams" took a consignment of approximately 10 paintings to Chrsities Auction House in London, of which approx 4 were returned to her - she may have gone form Christies too Sotherby's with the returned paintings of they may have remained in the family. One of these paintings made it out to New Zealand of which my parents purchased over 35 years ago at a deceased estate auction - Perhaps if someone knows a connection, perhaps Miss Williams herself moved to New Zealand. I am trying to trace the geneology of a painting and being In New Zealand is very difficult. The miss williams i am searching for may not have married, therefore she could have been an aunt to nieces/nephews in the Williams family. I am guessing she must have been a notable woman in 1918 to even have a consignment of 10 paintings with her. I would deeply apprecaited anyone being able to provide any information they may be of help. I am also considering using the local Bath newspapers to see if that brings any connections out of the woodwork! Thank you

His grandparents were Joseph hardick and Mary Jane Leader. Charles William Hardick has many living descendants in Canada, including my husband. Hope to hear from his UK relatives!
Time to resubmit my interests. My Great-Grandfather was Charles HUNT (c.1826-1903), although apparantly born in London was apprenticed in Bath by 1841, and thereafter moved to Gloucester, Chelmsford and Cirencester before returning to Bath for good by 1874. His mother may have been Maria KIRL who possibly fits into a family of that name living in Bath during the 1700s-mid 1800s. His wife was Eliza Jane GRABHAM (1844-1899), and her parents were Samuel (1807-1859) and Susannah Eliza SARTAIN (1813-1878). Susannah's parents were Thomas (1780-1874) and Eliza or Elizabeth CHARLEY or CHARLEY (1787-1826). I can manage one more definite generation of the SARTAINS - Thomas senior (d. 1827) who married Mary STILLMAN at Walcot in 1774 and died in 1840. her age was given as 91, but the only baptism of a Mary I can find occurs at St. Michael's in 1756 (along with her brother Joseph so I suppose she could have been older), children of Charles and Ann whom I have yet to track down. Anyone with any interests in these families is welcome to get in touch...please!!!

red mail Bailie family
Does anyone have any information on the BAILIE family who lived in Bath in the early 1800's. Head of family was Col William Annesley Bailie who married Hon Elizabeth St Leger in Cork. I think they had at least 2 sons, William Annesley and Thomas Goddard, born at the end of the 18th Century. I think there was a daughter who married John Nagle from Cork. The family lived at 10 Green Park Buildings and there is an obituary in the Bath Chronicle for William Bailie Senior on May 23rd 1821. William Junior married Jane Georgina and their children were all baptised at Walcot St Swithins from 1823-1827. Their names were Georgina born 1822, Elizabeth (1820), George (1819), William Annesley (1814), John (1824), Clare (1826). Thomas Goddard married Mary Murphy in 1810 and was a lieutenant in 80th Foot Regiment. Mary is listed as a widow in 1841 census. They had 5 children - Thomas Goddard (1817), Charlotte Brereton (1818), Henry, Elizabeth and Matthew, dates uncertain. They were living near Bath Abbey. There was another Bailie family living at 29 Grosvenor Place in 1830-1846, possibly a Captain and his wife. I know the children of Thomas and his wife moved to London but I have no information on the others. Any help would be appreciated.

red mail King Family in Bath/Bathford
Have hit a brick wall in my search for my 4 X great grandfather, Stephen King. I have found his 2nd marriage entry to Betty Goodchild on 8th November 1774 in St Swithins Church, Bathford. From a memorial inscription I found reference to: "Winefred King, wife of Stephen King who dround at Warley on 3 August 1773". Is this the first marriage? There is no trace of a first marriage for Stephen in this Parish nor a baptism entry. I did find burial dates for Stephen and Betty in St Swithins, Bathford. Stephen died on 20th February 1802 aged 62, so this would put his date of birth in 1740. Betty died 22nd May 1805 aged 56. It seems that Stephen and Winefred came into the Parish from elsewhere, Bathford is on the county border with Wiltshire. Where did they come from? Can anyone help me in my search?

red mail WESTs, BATHs, CRISPs
Seeking dedicated Researchers interested in: Sarah BATH nee WEST (b 5 Apr 1815) d 14 Oct 1909 at her farm "Malford" near Walcha NSW Australia, aged 94. Her parents: Thomas WEST (boatman) and Elizabeth. Sarah married the widower William BATH in Bath's "Trinity" Church on St Valentine's Day 14 Feb 1842. William's mother Mary Bath nee Hull d 1849 at 4 John St, Bath. In 1844 William and Sarah were living at Christian Malford WILTS (Bath and Ch. Malford had been linked by rail in 1841) when they were chosen by the Poor Law Union's Emigration Fund to be sent to Australia as assisted migrants. They arrived in Sydney in Dec 1844, settled at "Malford" outside Walcha NSW and have many descendents today. My great-grandfather George Crisp WEST (bapt. at Ch. Malford 20 March 1851, son of John WEST (poulterer, marketman) and Jane CRISP) got married at Walcha NSW 1871, his first child born at "Malford". There was no WEST family recorded at Ch. Malford in the 1851 Census. Also Martha West (b Bath ca 1855) married Police Constable Richard Murphy at Walcha 1875. ANY INFO REGARDING THE WESTS MUCH APPRECIATED. Furthermore: seems that John West and Jane Crisp m Bath 1841 (Vol. 11, p. 12). Seems Jane died Bath 1847. Seems John widower 43 was in 1861 Census with son Charles 13. Seems John was in the 1871 Census aged 59 with new wife Elizabeth and two step-children. Seems John is not in 1881 Census. Seems William Bath and Sarah West m Bath 1842 (Vol. 11, p. 17). Were John and Sarah siblings?
