I have a copy of the baptism cert. for their son John Hall who was baptized on 1 July 1837, cert. is signed by 'H.Wilson Rector of Abdon'. We know John was married twice - he had 2 children to his first wife (Samuel and Sara). After the death of his 1st wife he married Eliza Jones on 11 August 1868 at St.Johns Church, The Pleck, Walsall. They had a further 7 children one of which was my grandmother Emma. By the time Emma was born they were living in Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire (now Cumbria). Does anyone have any common ancestors? Would love to hear anything which could be relevant. red mail Missing Amelia Davies - (Acton Burnell - Shropshire)
My Great Grandmother Amelia was born inActon Burnell about 1860. The only information I have gained about her is from the 1901 census. She must have married my Great Grandfather Alfred Dearden in or before 1887 when their oldest Daughter Margaret was born. This is where I run into a problem. Magaret and their two sons Frank and John (my Grandfather) are listed as being born in Texas USA in the 1901 UK census. However my Grandfather John was baptised in Salford, Lancs, England in 1899. I can find no trace of the family in USA or UK records for the intervening period. I do not know if Amelia and Alfred married in the UK or the USA. If anyone has access to the baptism and/or marriage records for Acton Burnell and finds details of an Amelia which fits theses details I would love to know. UPDATE Thanks to Jeanette in Canada who was able to find details of Amelias marriage to Alfred in Jun 1884. So I now have a surname of Davies. An Amelia Davies is listed in the right area of Manchester in the 1881 census . She was a waitress in an hotel and is listed along with the other staff. The YoB is spot on, the only discrepancy is that her place of birth is given a Shrewsbury, Shropshire not Acton Burnell. FURTHER UPDATE. I have now traced Amelia via the 1871 Census where she is living in the hamlet of Evenwood near to Acton Burnell. Her father was Samuel Davies born 1825. Her mother was Hannah born 1825 and she had four sisters and two brothers. Matilda born 1856, Edward born 1858, Hannah Maria born 1863,Mary Ann born 1865, Samuel born 1867 and Frances Eliza born 1870. Living next door in what appears to be the only other house in Evenwood is SamuelÂ’s older brother Philip and his family. Philip was born 1806 and his wife Mary was born 1808, Living with then was a daughter Elizabeth born 1841 and a son Samuel born 1849. Also staying with them on the night of the census were three grand daughters, Mary Ann Harvey born 1863, Sarah Harvey born 1868 and Martha Harvey born 1870.

Cardington, Leebotwood, Comely - Lewis families - (Cardington - Shropshire)
I am looking for contacts or information about the Lewis family who lived at Hollyhurst, nr Leebotwood, Cardington. Mary Lewis (my grandmother) was the youngest daughter of John Lewis and Sarah Humphreys (subsequent research suggests she may have been Sarah Evans, dau of Moses Evans). John was born at Cuckoo's Nest Eaton under Heywood and Sarah came from Worthen. They started their married life at Eaton, then moved to Cardington area, living at Caradoc House/Farm Comley and then Hollyhurst. They had a large family (12 I think): Thomas (1860), Harriet, John, Sarah, Elizabeth, Martha, Jeremeiah, Susan, Emma, Matilda, Elizabeth and Mary (1883). I have a family wedding photo (c1900) and would dearly like to put names to the faces of these family ancestors.
