red mail HORDLEY
I'm looking for details of Edward HORDLEY born 1844 Oldbury,SHROPSHIRE. (discovered recently that Oldbury,WORCS is the same place since it was handed over to worcestershire in 1844). Details I have are from the 1911 census. He married my gr gran Caroline PARKES in 1906 but was surely married before that. They lived at 166 Gorsty Hill, Rowley Regis in 1911. I'm trying to find him in previous years but searches are throwing up absolute blanks, even for births.
red mail THOMPSON families in Oldbury, Salop
I have two THOMPSON families interconnected and both are from Oldbury - hoping someone may know something more of them:- Daniel THOMPSON born c 1727 m 1767 to Ann Darby (daughter of Edward Darby & Ann Billingham born 1740 in Halesowen). James THOMPSON born c 1747 m 1767 to Ann Briton (b c 1747 parents unknown). James & Ann THOMPSON had a daughter Phebe born 1770 and baptised in Oldbury 8/11/1770 as Dissenters. They also had other children born and baptised in the area - Betty 1773, Nancy 1777, Thomas 1779, William 1782, Hannah 1785, David 1788 and Diana 1792. Daniel & Ann THOMPSON had a son Joseph born 1766 and baptised 29/9/1766 in Oldbury. They also had other children born and baptised there - Sarah 1757, Benjamin 1759, Mary 1761, Esther 1763, Hannah 1769, Ann 1771-c 1775, Martha 1773, another Ann 1776, and Daniel 1779. Joseph, the son of Daniel & Ann married Phebe the daughter of James & Ann on 6/11/1791 at Harborne, STS. Joseph & Phebe had 9 kids - all baptised in Oldbury or Halesowen - Hannah 1792, Benjamin 1794, Joseph 1797, Phebe 1799, Samuel 1802, Thirza 1805, Rebekah 1807, Ruth 1810 & Sarah 1813. Thirza was born in 27/2/1805 and baptised at Halesowen on 26/5/1805. She became pregnant and was sent (or perhaps she was working there?) to Chatham, Kent where she gave birth to a son whom she named Theodore Horatio THOMPSON in 1824. At some point prior to 1838, she met and took up with a fellow named William Wedd. I don't know if she actually married this fellow or not, but a child was born and died at sea on the way to Australia in 1838. Thirza died and was buried as Thirza Wedd in South Australia on 26/5/1866. Her "husband" lived another 22 years and remarried. Her son THEODORE HORATIO THOMPSON was born at Chatham Kent 24/10/1824. He died in South Australia on 1/6/1894. He was my great-great-grandfather. If anyone can shed any light on the above mentioned people, it would be greatly appreciated.
