red mail Born in Cheshire Street, November 1866, but where?
My Great Grandfather Robert Smith Grant was born in Cheshire Street in November 1866, and baptised shortly afterwards in the local church. He was the illegitimate son of Elizabeth Grant, a nineteen year old girl from an impoverished family in Leicestershire. Later on, she took him back to her village (Great Glen) to be fostered by a local family. She had previously been a servant, though I have no idea where she might have been working immediately prior to his birth. Having looked at the properties on Cheshire Street, and their owners, I am wondering where she might have been staying when she gave birth. Her family name was Grant, and as she was also illegitimate, her mother's name was also Grant. Previous family surnames include Blount. But I have found no family connection to any property on Cheshire Street, nor any likely looking places where a baby might have been born, or Elizabeth cared for. Anyone have any ideas?

red mail Thomas MONTFORD - Harriet WILKES
Thomas MONTFORD (b.1791, d.1863, m. 2 Mar 1812)cabinet maker of Market Drayton, had nine children Thomas (b.1812, d.1872)a cabinet maker; Charles (b.1814, d.1889) a carpenter (my direct descendent); John (b.1816, d.1861); James (b.1819, d.1852); Mary (b.1821, d.1831); William (b.1824, d.1829); George (b.1826, d.1848); Henry (b.1828, d.1841); Harriet (b.1831, d.1845).
I am trying to trace back from my Gt.Gt.Grandfather Thomas Woodnoth ( Woodnitt 15.10.1809), through his father Thomas (21.3.1771) (?-2nd marriage)& Susannah née Walker; to his father Thomas Woodnorth/noth/nett (no more info). This first lot were Market Drayton, but Thomas (1771) seems to have moved after 1797, to Penn, Wolverhampton, where he married Susannah in 1803. Unconfirmed - Thomas (1771) had siblings Martha (1760), Peter (1762), Elizabeth (1764), Ann (1767) - all b. Market Drayton. As far as I have found, there 19 different spellings of the name in official records, which is really not much help. Pauline (NZ)

James was in the ROYAL STAFF CORPS and was married in 1825 in West Hythe, Kent. His first son, Charles ALLEN was born in Corfu while he was in the CORPS. His wife, Sarah ALLEN (nee BLACKMAN) and their children lived in Newport (Shropshire) during the 1841, 1851, & 1861 censuses; however, James was never present in any of these censuses.
